Title: aerodynamic motorcycle clothing
Post by: racer x on June 03, 2010, 06:00:39 AM
I have to ask . I am not totally serous . But it is a serous question regarding aero clothing like speed humps on the back side to smooth out the air around the helmet.

What about the back side . IS the Legendary BMW rider Ernst Henne's Butt Cone legal for land speed racing. Or is it unsafe or too funny looking to ride with.

My understanding is that a "speed hump" is only SCTA legal in the APS classes, if you run without the bodywork, the "hump" has to come off.
Great picture! :-D

I'm guessing that you're asking about the neck support hump at the top of the shoulders. It seems legal in all classes at ECTA. I think all the leathers I've seen Greg Neal use (and others) have one and still run in production classes.

NOPE ..I am asking about the BUTT CONE . You are not truly committed to speed  till you are willing to walk around the pit with a road cone strapped to you rear end

You can see it in this video. at 59 sec.

what kind of materials would you use and how would you keep it from compounding your injuries if you happen to fall off?

That is why I hope it is not allowed in any class. But a rubber cone and a bungee cord comes to mind.

I'm a car guy but this is a valid point. What about soft foam and velcro? The velcro on the on the suite side could be sewn in – foam bonded to velcro on the other side. My imagination is running wild with all these crazy shapes people would be wearing...

A dunce cap on the "po" (German for butt?).

have 1/2 a zipper stitched onto your leathers and then zip the cop on your arse.......

you know you want to do it!

If you were to have the "butt cone" surgical implant procedure, it would be difficult to be successfully protested on the shape of your a88.  Be a trend setter!     vic

Unh, do youse guys think that maybe I should move this topic over to the "joke" thread?  t sure is looking like that's the right place for it. . .

SSS, it seems those who are writing on this thread may have their heads heads up the butt where the sun don't shine and therefore don't need any aero strap on's. One never knows what the advantages would be cause they can't see which direction they are going anyway. Sorta like the two wheel hero rider in Vegas that can't figure why the slinky don't work on the up escalator. I better go to the garage and do something before I go nuts.

So your saying a slinky wont work on an up escalator?

Got ya thinking on that lol Didn't say it wouldn't work, it won't go down.

You got me think all right. Maybe add the bird that dips its beak in a glass of water and you would be very close to perpetual motion.

Go ahead Jon now you can move the thread to the joke section. :|

Nah, that'd be too easy.  I think I'll let this thread meander and wobble and pretty soon it'll be talking about weird stuff -- like aerodynamic motorcycle clothing, of all things!

I've never ran with a "butt cone", but my leathers do give me a serious "man toe". I haven't seen any mph gains from it, but the locals do stare.  :-o

Oct,
The part that worries me is, that this thread is not old enough for you to have fabricated those "items" as a joke, which (I can only assume) means you've already been thinking about this...

It appears that Lars is combining the aero clothing and exhaust thrust concepts.

To those that favor the butt cone idea, . . . while I don't agree with you  I do see your point . . . .

LL,  As to the Butt Cone, I am sure you would much rather see his point than get or feel the point

It does provide a different perspective to "sit on it and rotate"

If I saw a Butt Cone on a racer in front of me I would just hope that it would remain the "Cone of Silence".

if you had a break away butt cone would you need a safety teather attached? Does the teather connect to the bike or the rider?

I think the cone on yer butt is a great idea.  It is a bit of aero and if you crash you'll be already coned off for safety.  Plus with the cone the crash crew can find you much easier.  If the cone idea is a no go how about sticking a viagra pill where the sun don't shine and see what happens (aerowise that is).

A friend's father says he can't take his Viagra & his iron supplement at the same time because the only thing he can do then is point north. But hey, our track does run south to north.
