Title: New to BUB, anyone have any thoughts?
Post by: agrassfidf on May 12, 2010, 01:02:52 AM
There's alot more information out there on Speedweek, but I'm definitely interested in going to BUB speed trials. I wanted to talk to a few people about what its all about, especially if you're racing, because I'm considering it for the future. So, if you're up to let me know what time it is, as it were, tell me what you think.

Why would anyone with a M/C and/or sidecar race at Bonneville at a car event......unless of course if you want to be around you "club buddies"...........The BUB event is great, no problem getting a room in Wendover, cooler weather........plus you can have a go at the various classes that pay dollars (get your entry fee back).....Hope to see you there>>>>>>.............................

Thought you were concerned about the little woman giving enough space to attend races...

You can do what I do and just try to attend them all!
The Bub is unique as it is the only bike only event on the salt.  My only complaint is communication... never seem to know what is happening, the radio is not consistent...
As a bike guy it will be good because you will see a lot of bikes.

each event has its + and - you just need to go and enjoy.

Stainless, I think I am going to attend them all! I'm just waiting to hear back about a room in Wendover, which is one of the main obstacles. And yeah, my woman might not be so hyped about me being gone for more than two weeks of racing. But hey, life is about sacrifices.

Bak, I'm not racing this year, I'm going to spectate and get the vibe and all that, but I'm down for the BUB trials. I'll be there as long as everything works out. What are you racing?

Come play with us! There is camping at the bend in the road!
When is the last time you did something for the first time?

Bob, I missed BUB last year cuz of parts supplier problems. But, in '08 I got in line to run at 6:30 am. the first morning.  I could throw a rock to the front of the line. I pulled into my pits after my first and only run of the day at 4:30 pm. While I sat in line I watched numerous people make multiple runs. I went and asked the guy with "the list" what's going on. I was told we'd be going soon. I saw too much favoritism there for my liking. While waiting under the ez up to make my run I saw one of the writers for Cycle Mag. He was on his 4th run. I was there in '07 with the same results as '08. That's why I go to the BNI meets. You get in line and when it's your turn you run.

I'm going to try one more time this year. If things are the same, I'll never go back.

I do believe that's the lovely Linnea getting ready for her first LSR run.

Larry,
A lot of changes have been made since '08 so I hope your experience at BUB this year will be much better.
If your are not happy...come and see me in the rego trailer and I will try to fix it.
We listen to the riders and make changes every year- and sometimes make changes right in the middle of the meet!
Having the two tracks with four courses has made all the difference in the world!
See you on the Salt-Linnea

As Linnea said a lot of changes were made in 2008 due to the Que problems of years before.  It was much smoother last year and you could get at least 2 runs per day and usually 3 or 4 especially after the first 2 days.  By the last 2 days we were getting 5 runs in if we wanted.

Linnea,
Didn't they teach you to always put your helmet on before you put your gloves on?

The days with quirky weather at BUB and any other meet cause some scheduling problems.  The streamliners race in the calm portions of the day and everyone scheduled for the long course waits for them to run.  Also, FIM record return runs and AMA record return runs must be completed by a specified time period.  They get priority.  Often this appears to be preferential treatment to some riders, but it is not.  It is part of the land speed racing game.  We always have been treated well at BUB.

Larry,
Are you sure it was 08 you had problems with? Pretty sure it was 2007 that was so bad.  In 2008 you were building a new motor.

You're right Dan, it was '07. CRS is acting up again... Gonna send in my entry later today.

Bob, I usually don't have a problem questioning authority but, they usually have a problem with me after I'm done. Let's just say, the guy with the list in '07 had no intention of coming by for a beer after the days runs...

Looking forward to seeing all of you on the salt this year.

2007 almost made us never come back to Bubs again as well so don't feel alone.  Luckily for Buibs Delvene got the message loud and clear and has made great changes to the way the lines run. The only priority given to anybody was the streamliners but that is to be expected.

Agrassfidf - Come on out - The BUB event is big time fun. An outrageous assortment of bikes that you can only dream about, great friendly people, most willing to help you out if you need it, and some of the most dedicated friendly Volunteers you could ever meet - all in one place !
Agrassfidf - I am still trying to figure out how to pronounce your name or what the acronym means, but this will be the Gray Ghost's fifth year going to BUB, its something we look forward to all year, so if you make it out, stop by the Gray Ghost pit and have a cold H2o and a snack.

There is certainly one area that ALL the competitors have in common at the Annual BUB Speed Trials,
and that is their definite love of being around racing motorcycles.
Hey, that reminds me.......http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o8qrMj5u8U4&feature=email

See ya on the Salt, and hopefully in impound!! :-) :-D

You got that right Bob - we are in a count down mode also. Its a result of the dedication and long days of work that the BUB Volunteers provide, that make the BUB event better and better every year. Hats off to you all.
Looking forward -
Jimbo - Barb - and "da Ghost"   :-D
