Title: September 2009 Meet Results
Post by: DahMurf on September 21, 2009, 10:11:05 AM
Posted last night; http://www.ecta-lsr.com/?page_id=133

It was misty Friday morning while we set up. It then turned to extremely muggy but not a drop of rain all weekend.
We were the last ones out of the track Saturday at nearly 7pm and just as we were leaving it started sprinkling. Perfect timing!
We had decent and constant right to left side winds and headwinds most of the day Sunday so Saturday was the better day of the two for runs.

The believers that showed up were blessed with decent weather and many runs. Greg Neal made the most at 16!

No new 200mph entries this meet and no outstandingly stupid fast runs either. It was a fun safe weekend!

I really enjoyed being head motorcycle tech in Todd's absence (he arrived late Friday night/Saturday Morning) and had the pleasure of training two new motorcycle Techs. Welcome aboard Phil Campbell and Donna Timney as two of our new techs! They did a most excellent job teching, paying close attention to detail and asking all of the right questionss when question should have been asked! Great job you two I am very proud of you and honored to have you on the tech team!

Congrats to my hunny Todd for 4 new sidecar records for team Purpose Driven Racing with the fastest at 163, 6 runs over his personal best at Maxton with 3 of them being over 220 on the Scott Guthrie Racing gas turbo bike! Way to go, I'm proud of you!!

Looking forward to next month!
Debbie

John,
I sure missed being there! Joe's ZX10, wow, I tried to sit in it at Speed Week and I don't quite fold up as small as him!!! Not to mention going that fast  :-o! hehehe

Major congratulations on your new record!! Sure wish I was there to see it!

Yeah, the ticket was all his fault! That's my story & I'm sticking to it! That reminds me.... I need to call and find out how much! LOL At least there's no points involved! For once I didn't get pulled over for speeding!  :-D

Deb- As always, great work by all of you getting the results out. Will you be posting the class winners for the shootout itself? Did those 16 passes greg made include the ones on his 250? Thanks again.

Thanks for posting the results so quickly! Wish we could have been there...

PS. After checking through the run logs I see that we have another Warp12 Racing running now...(looks like a car team)...

Um hmmm... nope, we have a Warp 1 (blue 67 Chevelle) that's been land racing with us since before your time!  8-) In fact, we all raced together in Maine. Good catch! We have a couple little ditties from the meet that need tweeking. I'll add that to the list!

Yup looks like Neal's total is for both bikes! I only do my count by pilot.

Yeah the 16 runs would be on the 636 and 250.  We did loose some time with the chain break, rear wheel lock up.  That was a quite a ride.  I thought I had broken the tranny.

Thanks to all the volunteers for all of the hard work.  It was a great weekend of racing.

Speaking of the chain snafu (Again I'm glad you came outta that one ok) but somewhere in the pits or the startline I heard someone bitchin about the chainguard rule and someone's chain snapping. It was said with the tone that the chainguard was somehow at fault. I have no clue who said it or if it was even in reference to you. All I want to know is if you feel your chainguard in any way contributed to or caused (additional) issue with the chain snapping.

I'm just looking for a little feedback if there was a safety issue with our safety precautions that we should know about and look into. We all know sometimes chains snap. When I saw you your bike was rolling so tell us about the lockup. Did the chain get caught up on the chain guard & cause the lockup?

Thanks!
Debbie

Deb.  The chain did lock up the wheel for a short period.  It caught in the carrier and wedged between the carrier studs and the swingarm.  It broke loose quickly, obviously or I would have been testing the Joe Rockets out.  I do feel like the chain guard contributed to keeping the chain around the wheel area which caused the short lock up.  As a former roadracer the chain guard is the 1st thing that is taken off of the bike.  I have been drafting guy's and seen the chains break and depart the bikes both high and low.  I also understand that there have been people hit by chains that come off bikes or somehow get caught in wheels and beat your leg.  What is best, a guard or no guard?  I don't have that answer.  I've been doing the Land Speed only 3 years.  I know some truely made for racing bikes either come without chain guards, or say remove them when racing.  The chain was virtually new and had a rivited link.  It just failed, which happens.  The guard in no way contributed to the failure.  I do think it contributed to the chain wedging the carrier.  Maybe the chain guard rule should be revisited.  Just my thoughts.  You all have been at this form of racing longer than I.  Thanks for the concern and the work you do.

Here I go again taking off in a weird direction but the chain guard reminded me of a guy who came to our last event - a first timer. I'm sure you inspector's love folks who come completely ready to run. This gentleman was not a member, did not have a rule book, but came with a great attitude and planning to work hard Friday night to make inspection Sat morning. Could I help with some pointers? Yeah, hey Phillip!  Of course everybody offered help, pointers, tools---. He made inspection first thing Sat. morning and looked fast all weekend. By the way, I threw some pipe strap in my kit last night if anybody needs any for batteries.

Oh yeah - tie in, if any, the first question he asked was about needing to extend the chainguard on his bike.
