Title: the BIG question: dates of 2010 Loring LSR event?????
Post by: entropy on August 16, 2009, 09:29:27 AM
I sure hope Bob & company consider the 1st running of the Loring LSR event such a success that they want to do another in 2010.
EVERY single racer & spectator i talked to said that the inaugural event was a huge success

If Bob has the energy & will, is it too early to start planning 2010 dates????

Since 2010 Speed Week is planned for Aug 13-19, it would seem that Sat July 31 & Sun Aug 1 would work????
(give the salty folk 2 weeks to prep & get to Bonneville)

Just a thought.

I understand that The Loring Redevelopment Authority has to INVITE us back before any planning can begin.

Charles ... beautiful country ... especially down east a bit ... like Bar Harbor ... take your wife and spent a couple of days on the Maine shore ... I guess you arent over 50 ... because you know if you are over 50 if you don't care where your wife goes as long as you don't have to go with her ... plus you can bet she feels the same way about you ... Joe,,,  ssshhh... you might be right.

We did the cruise this year for our anniversary,,, so next year I get to choose,,, and my mind is made up... Loring ....... Maybe a side trip to see Maine and Canada if my wife wants to come,, if not me and the crew will hang with all our LSR friends...

I just hope LTA gets invited back for another event.

"If Bob has the energy & will, is it too early to start planning 2010 dates"
The Mind is willing, but......Nah, I got the energy.
I'll propose July 30, 31, August 1, and Maybe August 2nd as a rain day or in case we get seriously discovered.
An August 13th start for SW is great ! It gives anyone interested in attending both events a little breathing room, especially compared to this year.
Let's not get too far ahead on this, we're still unraveling all this years' info, even as well as a first event as it was, there are obvious improvements to be made .
I believe we made a good impression, and need to take a kind of census to see what else the commercial interests up there might want to extend to the LTA , besides free road kill Barbecue Moose samples in the staging lanes. (Anybody have some ?)
I do know it wasn't  the Female so many of you have seen that hangs around the south end of the Runway , I saw her after  Sunday. Somebody named her Sophia (Loring) .
I digress, we've been kind of loafing since the meet, bathing in that warm afterglow of apparent success,  need to get back on the phones.
Stay Tuned, you ain't seen nothing yet !!!

Bob, you just say hen and I guarantee I'll be checking the date off on the calender.  It was a great time for us all.  Everyone that didn't go is talking about going next year.  The potential for a very large turn out is there.  Both participants and spectators.  You spoke to me for a minute Friday and said you thought the potential for the place was unlimited.  I think you may be right.  Thanks for sharing your dream with us all.  Looking forward to the 2nd time around.

Ah, I did have some of the moose in the staging lanes!!!  I could have had that pulled and spicy on a hard roll both days for lunch!!!

Great job Bob, I sure hope they invite us back.

So far the feed back that I'm hearing is that you guys are going to have many more people next year!!!  Many people are wishing they went and I haven't heard anyone say they wouldn't go back.  So that's a warning to you guys putting it on, there WILL be many more racers there next year.  And that's a great thing for the event and sport as a whole.

This is the fastest venue here in the USA and probably the world and words out.

The sooner the date is picked the better.  July 30th - Aug 1st sounds good to me. A second event in the fall would be a good idea as well so if the first event gets rained out you aren't done for the season. Plus the fall temps there would be cooler and more conducive to making more power.

CAJUN...........bite your tongue. You didn't really say any of those things.

Our 55th anniversary was August 6th. That was full moon. Years ago I did fotos of 216 as the moon came up. I intended to

repeat those shots this year. I changed my mind and stayed home. Just as well. the wind blew it out anyhow.

That was a foto that ment a lot to me, especially the way Speed Week unfolded, but I figure I will be living a few more

years and the decision was definite but difficult. In my opinion, that one day bought me many weeks...........

My wife said, "go ahead and go." That's sorta like "whatever" or "maybe." The connotation is much more definitive that

the statement.

August 6th also has covered the only NASCAR race I really wanted to see.........Indy 400 (by whatever name it is that year)

but so be it...............

We explained very early on that due to the Maine Inland Wildlife Dept's concerns about a  resident nesting bird, The Upland Sandpiper,  racing would not be permitted before August. This bird population is considered "Threatened" and their fear is it would be frightened off , mostly by excessive noise that the population hasn't encountered since the USAF left.
We had originally planned the dates to be around June 20, the summer solstice, the longest day, which up there is practically 18 hours of daylight.
The first weekend of August worked fine this year, and in 2010 we have a nice break before SpeedWeek.

Another option is after Speedweek, in September. It would be cooler, and those that couldn't get ready in time for Bonneville, or broke early, would have a second chance. -Dean

When did you finally get to "enjoy" that fine Texas brew?  I'll bring another six-pac next year!  BTW, I think I set the record on flat tires on the way home.  Six flats on a four-tire trailer!  I was so pooped out after changing three that Gail had to change the last two.  Gettin' old! Thank God WalMart had trailer tires in stock and somebody was willing to mount them on a Sunday!  Long, long trip back to Texas.

Good job, Bob (and Bob).

After the first two weeks in Sept. the chance of nights dipping into the 20's is very high. The clear days will be fantastic for making power.

The forecast for this upcoming weekend 09-4/5/6 was an average of 70 for the high and 45 for the low.  All I know is you name the time, and as many times as you want to run there, and I'm in.

Based on "conversation" so far, I went ahead and made my reservations at the Caribou Inn for the first weekend of August 2010.  Denise told me that I had the first reservation.  I was surprised that nobody made reservations when they checked out last month.  I always make reservations and early entries as soon as possible.  You can always cancel, but you can't make a reservation once all the rooms are gone.  If the dates happen to change, I figure I can change my reservation.

I wrote on page 2 of this topic I'd propose those first days of August dates, July 30 as Friday Tech, race July 31 and August 1, Monday August 2 as rain day or because attendance warrants it.
I wrote to the Maine Inland Wildlife guy outlining this exact date query, have yet to receive a response.
Another regular reminder here, regarding dealing with authorities and volunteers.
We've had an excellent relationship with the wildlife people, are in no rush, and am pretty confidant in getting those proposed dates confirmed.
Volunteers work for free, have no expectation of any form compensation, and in return we will accept the most minimal presence or work input from them. A minute or 24/7, we love 'em all.
This is my way of explaining out any probems  anybody out there has with records being posted, apparel being ordered, like that.
We are currently sorting out and reconfiguring and hopefully consolidating our operation to simplify and make the LTA efficient as possible for the future.
As you might have noticed, LTA SWAG is orderable through the mailing address at  the track in Limestone, ME.
We've learned a lot from our first event and observing the senior Timing Orgs, cut us some (more) slack, OK ?

Dear Kid,
Just bring yourself, hopefully the warm California sun will follow you up to Limestone.
The important stuff is done, everything else we can procrastinate on we obviously will .
We are working on 200 Club stuff, updating the website, outlining a rulebook/record book (our own), all the necessities and a few ideas to improve above and beyond, or at least, different from other TAs.

Check out your current RuleBook, and consider likely changes for 2010, ie, HANS type devices, etc.
Then post positive constructive suggestions. Then we'll still ignore you.
Seriously, like I've been hammering on since day one, SAFETY is # 1.
Our focus is your welfare, and at LTA/2010 we'll be at least as anal as the first event.
Contrary to a popular rumor ,there will be no new HayaMoosa Bike class.
We appreciate all legitimate positive criticism, that's called progress.
Thank You

Bob,

You might want to check into running drag radials over 200 mph for a mile and half.
When i built my car i call Hoosier and Mickey Thompson and they recommended no to run
a drag radial in a mile at 200 mph.
I called BF Goodrich and they said it was ok for a few seconds over 200 mph but had not been tested.
I know they have been running drag radials at Maxton for years with no problems and i run them on my car.
Just some thoughts and something to think about.

That's what I want , an excellent question.
We'll kick this around, technically, realistically, legally, safely .
All the contemporary concerns.
Sometimes the obvious is ignored by the inconvenience of reality.
What you'll see is my personal credo, when in doubt, don't.
I hope everybody posts soon so any possible changes/additions can be in the new RuleBook.
Actually, I think this should be a new topic.
