Pictures of '34 Ford Gas Roadster under construction for Speed Week 2009. My first effort at building a car. First pictures show detail of bottom of frame for exhaust crossover. Exhaust runs within the height of lower frame rail (2" x 6"), between step pan and floor, and will exit out back of car. Other pictures show frame and body as currently fitted.
It has been fun!

JWW, looking real nice, great work. Keep up the build photos. see you on the salt.
-
JWW, that looks great!!! What engine size are you planning on running? Blown or Unblown? Fuel or Gas?
Keep up the great work, and keep those pictures coming!!!
-
Being I see an "X" pipe for the exhaust I'll go out on a limb and say it's normally aspirated. Using some form of Nascar engine in the B,C,D, class on gas. Just a guess though. Let us know.... 8-)
Really nice build by the way......

"Pictures of '34 Ford Gas Roadster . . ."
Comprehension tests to follow in the morning.

Yes, I'm running a "C" gas motor, with a five speed Liberty.
-
By the way, thank you guys for the encouraging response to the build. After thinking about this car and building it as long as I have, at times I've questioned my sanity!
-
Sanity, whats sanity? :? WELCOME to the world of SALT FEVER!!!!!!!!! :-D

I know less than nothing about building cars but,
maaaan it looks so "right".
Please keep the pictures coming

What's there to question ?
.-)
Best of luck with your build !

You may want to insulate the step pan and flooring over the exhaust it's going to get pretty hot sandwiched in that area. Good luck
-
Jimmy; yea thanks. I anticipate wrapping the cross over in a heat proof material to help insulate floor.
If the floor starts getting too hot, I'll drive a little faster so I can get out sooner!
-
Wow, that looks nice.
Been wondering if a 33/34 has a lower cd and all than a typical 32.
-
jww,,
Lizard Skin ceramic coating helps reduce heat a buch and it slows any fire too !! Use it on the floor and inside of the firewall,,, Just my 2 cents..

-
Charles, Thank you for that info. I will look into it.
-
Ceramic coating the pipes will help keep the heat where it belongs, in the pipe. It is supposed to help performance also.

I told my neighbor, Boris Landoff with California Cycle, I wanted a bitchin paint scheme on my Bonneville '34 gas roadster. Primarily red, with silver, black and white trim. I told him I would give him a couple of hundred dollars for the paint and materials! When he finally got up off the floor and recovered from his laughing seizure, he informed my the red alone would be close to $500 (I'm a dumb ass fabricator, I don't know anything about paint except what Krylon costs at Home Depot). So...I located a quarter scale '34 fiberglass coupe body and made a roadster out of it. We will use it to determine paint scheme for bonneville car.
-
Can't wait to see this at Speed Week. Yes, Red is expensive. :) Silver is too. I'd go white and/or black. You could get a cool scheme with black and white. Scallops maybe? Go old school style. Keep those pics coming!

Presently I am mocking up supports/mounts for ISP roll cage padding using an original Kenny Hoover look-a-like mannequin with one of his early helmets. :-D
-
The helmet is certainly period - correct for Kenny, but how'd he ever get that pompador of his under that little helmet?
Great workmanship!
-
jww- Doing all the paint and body work over the last 15 years has saved me a bundle on my roadster. I've never found the costs to be what every one said. I'm not a base coat clear coat guy. The correct materials are expensive and what I like is not available in the LA-OC area without some creative "fibbing" to the supplier. We just purchased the acrylic enamel, thinner and hardner to shoot my sons dirt Camaro for under $100.00. Granted it isn't multi color and we will only do the prep necessary for it's type of racing. Good Luck...I need to get over and see the work you've done.
-
Jimmysix;
Please feel free to come by shop anytime.
As far as getting helmet on "Kenny's" head, I had to use my 10 ton H-beam press! :-D
-
JWW36 -LMAO!!!
Wish Hoover posted here -He'd have some CHOICE things to say.
