Title: I give up. What is this Ferrari?
Post by: RayTheRat on January 18, 2009, 11:33:02 PM
I did a photo shoot at a car show today..."Auto Expo."  Mostly new cars but a few others here and there.   Most of the shots I took i could identify by model or name, but this Ferrari is unfamiliar to me.  Anyone know?

F40 was close and it got me on the right path.  It appears to be an F-50:

Remember the F-40 that Amir Rosenbaum ran on the salt in 06? He owns Spectre Industries and is reworking a streamliner that Kenny Hoover was to drive.

Thanks, Pork Pie.

Kool info about Rosenbaum's liner, GH.  I look forward to seeing it.

About the Auto Expo photos: I spent 2 hours shooting, then 14 editing and creating the html pages.  But they're on the server:

If ya find any glaring (or even not-so-glaring) errors, please let me know.

Ray, some shots of a F-40 - we had to coach the tow driver to get it on the truck w/ out scraping the bottom off!

I don't remember if there were visual difference between the F-40 and F-50.

Nice shots, David.  What's the story on the rollback?  Don't tell me the F-40 used Lucas ignition and the rain shorted it out.  :)

There is a visual difference.  The belt line on the F-50 is at an angle almost clearing the top of the rear wheel opening.

Hi Ray - I done a quick look.....I'm not sure with the name Ferrari California - to my opnion is this a Ferrari 599 GTB (Fiorano) which is a strong modified facelift* version if the Ferrari 575 Maranello - the California is the Spider version from the 599 GTB with the convertable roof. The soider version from the 575 was called Superamerica

*In reality is the 599 a complete new designed car but the base idea for the body shape was the 575. The Ferrari 612 Scaglietti looks similar, but is a much bigger car in a 2+2 seat configuration instead of the 2 seater 599 and 575.

By the way, there is big different between the F40 and the F50 - these are two totally different design shapes.

Ray, I will send you a PM the next day, when I got the picture again through.

Sorry, never seen the two side-by-side.

Guy drove the car on a tour and never realigned the front wheels from race spec.  when a front tiree wore through and flatted, we stopped to call a tow truck.  I was the only one w/ a cell that worked (Dolores, CO) and didn't feel I could just leave those folks without some local connection.

Flatbed to Alb. NM? $1200.  Not much more that a new tire -IF a new tire had been available.

best,
