Secret build going on, see if you can figure out who and what it is.
-
Its a car with a NW blown V8
-
BBC
-
I can't give it all away that easy
-
BBC
Sparky Bill, that is what a NW Blown V8 is,
Fuel right?
-
Should be---I cant make out the roof line---I would guess a MOD sports
-
Or it could be an ALT???
-
SSS yes Fuel class
-
could it be another stude?
-
My guess - Studebaker A or AA /CBFAlt or /CBGAlt. Windshield opening doesn't look quite right for a camero or firebird. Top doesn't appear to be chopped, so not likely a Comp Coupe. Tube frame would take it out of Gas Coupe. just guesses . . . can I buy a vole?
-
It's not a Stude.
-
it's a diesel truck :-D (how would I know? I have zip knowledge, but wanted to guess anyway!)
Lynda
-
So it's a "secret" "not so secret" build..
-
Is there a v-drive hiding there?
-
I didn't see a V-Drive there.
It is chopped, just a very nice job of it.
-
nascar monte carlo
-
Nope, not a nascar it's a LSR car, I'm sure most everyone knows the person that it belongs too :-D
-
Is it a car that was once used in LSR and is it a record holder?
-
Is it a car that was once used in LSR and is it a record holder?
MMMMMMM you would ask that question, I don't know, I didn't ask them that. but I do know it sat around for a time before this work started.
-
I know what it is, found out tonight.
DW
-
C`mon Dan...Spill the beans
-
I heard that Willlie is redoing the Dolan/Jeffries Escort EXP.
Mike
-
Cook's old Vega ?
-
Thought that burned to the ground.
-
It did but I heard they still had the frame. Could be wrong.
-
It's not Mike's :-D
-
is it a Pacer? not really just kidding on that guess. Ok just for giggles is it a mustang?
-
Opel GT
-
Glen
This was Mike's Vega
-
thundersalt
No it's not a Opel
cheeto racer
It would be funny if it was a Pacer and no it's and it's not a mustang
Another clue, you all should not rule out something just because someone said it wasn't what it is.
Still no one has even guess who's it might be.
-
Out of all the cars that I have been a part with dad including the t bird I wish I had a chance to drive that one !!!! I have a video of it when they ran 252 mph on the dirt to this day I have never heard a car sound like that... You talk about heros in land speed racing and awsome machine that car and the people behind have to be at top of the list .. 252 mph in 1987 high points champ in 1981. Mike cook doug cook les leggitt I was 8 yrs old when they lost the car and to this day I remeber it like yesterday....
-
So do I mike
-
Mikey I seem to recall your dad had to kick the side window out to get out of the car. We're very glad he did. He is a major asset to land speed raccing. That had to be one of the worst fires ever on the lakebed.
-
It must be a firebird or camaro? With the aero advantage it makes sense.

Another hint............. this car might be considered the Studebaker's replacement, and the owner been involved for years.
-
RICK WHITE
-
Actually Mike was standing up in the car through the roof hatch. Gary and I were timing the run when it blew just before the lights and as soon as I saw the fire I was down and chasing him. I was the 1st one to the car and he was standing out side of it. I have pictures of it in my files It was a big fire.
-
So how long did it take for the fire dept. to get there. That's not the SCTA fire crew. I guess it was a big fire......
-
What fire department if there was one the car might still be here
-
Avante?
-
Glen
This was Mike's Vega
That's not the SCTA fire crew.
-
Avante?
You were right the last time.......
-
This is what I have heard over the years as soon as dad saw fire he hit the first bottle the fire went out got on the chutes saw fire agian in the windows of the friewall hit the second bottle fire event out again. Then the car filled up with smoke and fire no more fire bottles so he stuck his head out the roof hatch he was headed over tawrds the return road went back down to point the car back tawrds the track grabed a handfull of brake then back out the hatch. By this time he was still going pertty fast it was so hot he decided to roll off the back of the car there was no fire truck there by the time they got there it was to late the only thing left was the air bottle.....
-
Avante?
You were right the last time.......

Sorry, it's not Rick white :-D
Were close on the car, but which one
-
As far as the fire department at the Cook car a spectator called 911. It came from El Mirage city, took about 30 minutes to get there. SCTA later contracted with a service company for fire services. It's hard to say if the FD had been on site if it could have been saved as it was a hot and large fire. The Vega body was melting down over the car with no way to pull it off.
-
I know what the car is, saw it today.
No way of telling if the Vega would still be here is those in charge had made the same contracts they did the month before.
DW
-
Well it is either a Firebird or Camaro. I would guess Firebird.
-
67-68 camero with slight modification? Yesterday thought it might be an AMC product.
-
Captain Billy's :?
JL222
-
bvillercr

jl222

-
I know what the car is, saw it today.
DW
dwarner
I know you know, I showed up just after you left yesterday.
-
Not Captain Billy's !!!!!!
-
But the owner is a big man...
-
Well this car is starting to take shape now, This is going to be one sharp looking car when it's all done.
-
Tommy Hodges ???
-
Some people have been heard to say that the blower in the picture might not be the type that ends up running in the car.
And the owner has a past presidents sir name... to help some of you out.
-
Hoover?
-
Here are some before and after shots of the rearend and tub installation.
-
L Kennedy is a big guy. Especially when standing next to me.

That's up to DiveEZ to say...
-
Well DiveEz you gonna tell us if Lee is "the one".
-
OK OK Yes, Lee is one :-D
-
Great, now let's see more. :-D
-
So he is going to run it in CCoupe?
-
Who are the others?
It will be nice to see Lee get out of the red truck.
-
Lee will be using the Firebird instead of his red truck for the same duty. He will be on the scene quicker thats all.
Lee will be back with Terry Kilbourne. If the Firebird runs as well as the Monza some records are sure to fall.
DW
-
Dan
Can we still call him PUTT_PUTT
-
I think they (KKM) still have the Monza. As I recall when they ran the Monza there was no classic class. The Monza would be right at home in the Classic Category. JMO.
Tom G.
-
What class are they planning to run in and what size fuel motor?
-
bvillercr
If I remember this right it is going to be in 2 classes, a Turbo Big Block and NA with Nitrous.
But then again I could be wrong I have a head cold and my mind is in a cloud. :?
-
AA Blown gas and fuel comp coupe are both pretty soft records, but AA unblown fuel CC is up there.
-
Well work has continued and the seat is being installed and work on another project. look at this, Mike is doing work even though he tells me he doesn't' :-D
-
We haven't seen any full pictures of the car. Keep em comming.
-
That's true I haven't, so here's a side shot
-
I was at Cooks last week and looked at the car. Nice Hot Rod. Sure to be fast. :-)
-
looks good, are they going to be ready by speed week?
-

-
bvillercr
I hope so but I'm not sure, I will check next time I drop by.
