Title: El Mirage BLM Passes
Post by: Dean Los Angeles on November 03, 2008, 12:39:11 AM
Just a heads up if you bought the BLM SCTA Special Recreation Permit passes at the registration trailer in October. They were giving out incorrect passes.

You should have three passes. One says "Regular Pass". The other two say "Car Pass".

If you have three that say "Car Pass" you have to make sure to trade one in for a "Regular Pass".

The "Regular Pass" gets the tow vehicle, a trailer, and an additional vehicle. (The race car/bike).

The "Car Pass" does not allow a towed vehicle.

The passes are good for race dates only.
And only good for the race surface, not the rest of the recreation area. It says that on the car passes, not the regular passes.

Mike,

I paid $5 for a car pass at the reg trailer. The pass reads good for listed dates only. The listed dates run through Sept. 09. I figure $5 well spent.

When I left the lakebed there was no pass checking going on.

I left at 3:00 on Sunday and they were checking every car for passes.

Sparky sent me a pass, but it says something about not being good for a tow vehicle.  Is this just refering to towing a race vehicle or any vehicle, such as my teardrop?

Thanks,

Sum

The restriction on the car pass is for another vehicle. A trailer is allowed.

The SCTA worked out a deal so that you can buy an annual BLM permit for $75 that gets your pit vehicle, your race car and up to two support vehicles on the lake bed only for race days only.

For all other uses:
Quote
El Mirage Dry Lake Off-Highway Vehicle Recreation Area
Starting Wednesday, October 1, 2008 El Mirage Cooperative Management Area will be a fee area

Each vehicle driven into the area will be required to have a special recreation permit.  A separate permit is NOT required for any vehicles towed into the area. However, if a towed vehicle is later driven in or out of the area a permit will be required.
Presentation to the Recreation Resource Advisory Council For Fee Implementaion

The permits are:

$15 for a one day permit, valid from dawn to dusk

$30 for a weekly permit, valid for 7 days

$90 for an annual permit, valid from October 1, 2008 - September 30, 2009

Permits will be available for sale on-site using a fee machine. The on site fee machines take cash and credit cards. Please bring exact amount of the pass, the machines do NOT make change. The fee machines at EL Mirage sell daily, weekly and annual passes.

The El Mirage Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) Area is located in the Mojave Desert on the western edge of San Bernardino County near the Los Angeles County Line. This Off-Highway vehicle riding area attracts a variety of activities.

The areas of interest include El Mirage Dry Lakebed, the Shadow Mountains, El Mirage Basin, and the Twin Hills area. This make up a 24,000 acre project area of public and private land. Elevations range from about 2,800 feet at the El Mirage Dry Lake to more than 3,800 feet in the Shadow Mountains.
