225 in second gear, they had an electrical problem and couldn't upshift. it was the only time the car was run.

Dave,
What is the status of your liner right now? As I remember you were looking for tires. Any chance of seeing it in the near future.

The video is neat. That is such a neat car!

Hi Rex. I did get some tires ($ouch$), and now I'm adding onto my garage to be able to fit the car. Turbines have also been purchased (double $ouch$). I'll be lucky to get it to Bonneville in 2010. it's tough doing it on your own.

     Dave
Are you replacing the aero engines with turbines? Are those Allisons?
Hope you post alot of pictures and info.

        Good luck JL222

cool video.

what was the reason you did not want to run the merlin's

it seemed all they needed was a little more time to work the bug's out.

what was the reason the builder's of the car sold it.

Also curious about the engines - why replace them?   They sound well-tuned in the video.   Being able to drive off gently like that, seems like the tuner knows what he's doing!!

as cool as they sound, that's a lot of monkey motion going on for "only" 2500hp (each). first time you hurt a crank you're in for $20k.

Turbines are simple, spin them up, turn on the fuel and hit the ignitor. Then they'll run for 1000 hours.

I figure I'll be busy enough at 500mph without having to worry about 24 pistons, 96 valves, 192 injectors....

Dave,
I am sure that you have already said what turbine you are using but I'll ask again, same one as Vesco (except twice!)?

Wow, you usually don't see anyone put "only" in front of 2500 HP for an LSR motor....
Dave, what's the bill for the turbine if you suck up a little salt, a rivet, or a hat?
Heard both running, turbines and big motors, hate the sound of turbines, of course after 35 years of working on jets, I don't hear them very well.  Love the sound of the big motors, but there is all the up-down-squirt-round-e-round going on to get it.
Good luck on the project, need pictures and a build diary please.  We all like to see what folks are doing to go 500  :-o

Hi Rex, they're Turbomecas from AMTRAK trains (based on the Turmo series?). they are a good choice beacuse they are rated for continuous output (1850HP on diesel) and are in a heavier case than the aircraft types. also they have a convenient flange (like a crankshaft) to get the power out. and they're MUCH lighter than the Merlin/Allison trans combo, and with the "free-turbine" configuration, shock loads are greatly reduced (acts like an air-to-air torque converter). With Bonneville limited to less than 12 miles, the car is going to have to go on a diet.

I've got 4 engines plus a couple of fresh hot sections, hopefully that will be enough. (I have located a few more fresh engines just in case....). Go to www.worldlandspeedrecord.com for some fun pictures.

Not sure what Dave is doing but the Team Vesco Turbinator II ran 503 MPH single T 55 turbine and 4wheel drive. It can be done.
