Title: March Event
Post by: Warp12 on January 23, 2007, 07:26:39 PM
I saw this is the Hot Rod Speed Challenge. Does that mean that all vehicles are not welcome? I compete on a motorcycle. Sorry for the dumb question...but their is a banquet involved!  :-D

No, Bryan, there's a restriction -- no 7-wheelers with three engines, one of which comes from a weed-whacker, and also absolutely no steam rollers!  Other than that -- yup, all are welcome.

A little more serious response to the question -- The Hot Rod Top Speed Shootout has brought a whole bunch of cars to Maxton (that might otherwise never have been there).  And this means that indeed, there are longer lines than we've come to enjoy.  Bikes run just like always -- but don't be surprised when you arrive and see cars all over the damn pits, cars lined up in "pre-stage".  There'll still be three lines in staging, still be Al the starter getting off racers as safely and fast as he can, still be course workers making sure the next few vehicles are ready to run as soon as the previous racer leaves so waiting is minimised.

Get your butt there and enjoy the weekend.  The banquet -- hey, what other race event has bagpipe music to greet you when you arrive at the facility?  We'll be there, maybe with bikes, maybe just to work.  But we'll be there.

Bryan, you're dating yourself.  The "steam rollers" I see nowadays have two rollers -- big, one in front, one in back.  Then there are the non-steam rollers -- about six tires front, five in back (maybe it's the other way around).

Even numbers -- so you're saying no motorcycle sidecars, hey?

nope. not unless the hack rides.

The current rulers and rulings have deteriorated down to the level they are now known as "Slide Cars."

"Wanna buy a shirt?"

Bryan, you're close -- it's not Barbara Walters, it's Bubba Walters.  You get a mug shot, fifteen minutes in the porta-potties, plaque on your teeth (assuming you've got some), a couple of links from a drive chain, and it's not a Visa card, it's an empty Wal-Mart gift card.

The $100 is correct -- but only for pre-entries.  Add $20 if you register at the track.

Do you have to use Maxton's water for those steam rollers for the gas class?

I got all excited when I read about the Hot Rod meet.  Finally! . . .  a meet just for me!

Then I realized it says Hot Rod Speed Challenge.  The frist time I read it I thought it said "Speed Challenged".

. . . . Oh well.

Oh, poop -- Tonya's on the other side of the planet.  Sure hope Donya reads this.

I forget how much I need to remit (in advance, of course) for the ECTA banquet.  It's only a month from this weekend.  I think I've paid the dues, and I don't think we'll have bikes 9so don't need to pre-register).  How much for supper for two, Donna?  To where do I send the check?

Hi Jon!
It was in the mailed newsletter, if you still have it.  But last year, my Bro and I just paid at the track on Saturday - I was completely clueless, having never been to Maxton before.  That was before you guys got me addicted.  Now, I have full knowledge, so have no excuse for my cluelessness.

I THINK it was $20/head, but I sent back the form so I don't know for sure.

Looking forward to seeing you and your Sweetie soon.

Dan

Todd, based on the Power Point I just sent to you -- don't you feel bad for having been disrespectful to me?  I won't send any more of these if you'd rather I didn't...

Gee-zul-man, don't you be giving Keith and Joe any ideas.  Porta-potty duty at the Salt is fine.  I don't need to add any more little blue booths to my resume.  Next I'll be asked to go to El Mirage to do the nasty duty.
