Title: Gregg Adams
Post by: Paul Powell on May 20, 2020, 10:27:05 PM
It is with tears that I am posting that Gregg Adams passed away today from an apparent heart attack.  For those who knew Gregg he had a passion for Land Speed Racing, visiting almost every venue in North America that held events.  Gregg had an uncanny ability to capture our greatest memories through his photographs.  Gregg?s wishes were to be cremated and there will not be a funeral at this time.  I will post soon regarding plans for a memorial in his honor.  His family is asking for privacy at this time.  If you need anything, please contact me via text or phone at (252) 452-4998 or message me on Facebook.

So sad. Gregg was a generous person. He loved to share his racing adventures with all through his great photographs. He unfortunately joined an ever growing group of people in our land racing family that we will miss but never forget. RIP my friend

GodSpeed Greg, hard to believe you are gone.... for those that didn't know him Greg had a passion for pictures at Bonneville and was an avid LSR fan.   It was always good to see and talk to Greg... a man with lots of energy.
You will be missed my friend.

Gone way too soon, Gregg was a true gentleman and it was a pleasure to know him.

He would e-mail photos to me and text occasionally.

I will miss him, Don

Gregg always said...."He couldn't make so great photos as I do....because...he can't hold a so heavy camera"....

Gregg would remember my answer...."I capture the historic moment as a historian....you capture the love we all have for speed....and this in a beautiful way"....

we shared both passion...the love for speed and the love for photography to enjoy the speed community....

R.I.P. my friend....you will be never forgotten....and you will live in your picture forever

I am super glad I was able to meet Greg at Speed Week last year.  Super nice guy and a fantastic photographer.  I was looking forward to seeing his project hit the salt.  This is a great loss to the LSR family.

Race In Peace, sir.

A "real people person" who willingly shared not only his passion for LSR and photography but that for history.  We had some interesting chats about museums and historical points of interest that could be seen during journeys  to and from various venues.

He never failed to stop by our pit when at Loring and offer whatever time and help he could, always keeping us upbeat during more than a few "mentally trying" times.

Gregg, hope you enjoy your journeys to whatever meets lie in the great beyond as much as we enjoyed your time here with us, you will be forever remembered.

So sad, Gregg was a great guy.

He had a great eye for catching our cars in the moment. He really enjoyed traveling to the meets and recording the day's events.

Rest in Peace

Ah, Gregg, we hardly knew ye...  May you Rest in Peace.

Gregg and I hooked up at Maxton a bunch of years ago when he appeared and started taking pictures.  Fast forward and he spent about a jillion hours helping me get the whole streaming concept get running.  Troubleshooting software from his house or babysitting stuff at the salt - Gregg helped.  And he was one of the very few racers that has visited us way up north at our house.  All very cool, to say the least.

Then we had a falling out.  I don't remember the details or who peed in whose cereal bowl or what, but we didn't have much to do with one another for a few years.  Bummer, but life went on.

Fast forward to a couple of years ago at SpeedWeek.  I was in the radio announce trailer and Gregg walked up and waved me outside.  I went out to say hello and he extended his hand and said something to the effect that "there's no reason to carry a grudge forever".  We shook hands and that was that.

A good measure of a man is not how friendly or smart or cute he is.  It's how he deals with unhappy situations.

I salute you, Gregg.  It was a pleasure to know you.

I don't even know where to begin on this one.

Gregg and I started a correspondence after we met in Maxton. Gracious, smart, funny . . .

Kate and I were happy to host Gregg and Linda at our home about 8 years ago, and he made a visit about three years ago when he was on one of his LSR vagabond trips coming back from El Mirage.

Gregg had been working on a Dodge Rampage for competition, but he openly admitted to me that he was scared of the idea of driving it.

He was there when the Midget took its first pass at Maxton, and when we finally cracked the Bonneville record in September, 2014.

I helped him with remote audio at Wilmington for this site - he was always better on the computer end than I was, but I could walk him through the analog end of it.

The last time we spent serious time together was at Bonneville. Kate and I had landed one of those gambling junket flights that the Wendover hotels offer, and he hauled our moldy butts all over the salt for three days.

My prayers go to his wife, Linda.  She was not nearly the the fan of LSR that Gregg was, and only occasionally made trips to the venues with Gregg, but she is a dear and wonderful woman who will be hurting for some time to come.

I loved this man, and he will be sorely missed in Milwaukee.

Godspeed, my friend - and yes -Pigs will fly.

Stunned

is the only word I can use at this moment . . . . .

I knew Gregg as most of us did, as a lover of Motorsports and LSR in particular, and, in what is a rare combination, an exceptional photographer.   We met on the Salt of course, in 2014 when he was the de facto head cheerleader and photographer for Chris Conrad's Milwaukee Midget.   I'm pretty sure that it was Gregg who was most elated of our little group.

And that was the kind of person that he was:  Always ELATED for the success of others, always willing to lend a hand, always willing to surprise you with a great candid photo taken in a moment of time, that then was "captured" forever.   Always when others, "had no time" . . . .        That is how I will remember my friend.

Requiescet in Pace frater, and GodSpeed Gregg.

Gregg was a fixture at Loring, we are saddened at his sudden passing.  Gregg always had a kind word and a smile for everyone and he touched a lot of lives.  RIP

Unbelievable. What a undeserved tragedy. Gregg and I met on the telephone from North Carolina to Washington state seven or eight years ago.
He was coming out to Freud's wonderful reunion and I offered Him a place to stay and hang out which is something He was lucky to pass up on (the staying part) but hangout We did. Our conversations were pretty funny and filled with swearing, politics, more swearing and laughing and talking about Bonneville, My car, His ambitions to come to Speedweek and see the salt and all of the veteran racers He had read about.
As I recall, He was born and raised in Southern California but had a definite "twang" in His voice that wasn't that of a Yankee.  He swore that it was because aliens had abducted Him and He woke up in the heart of "Dixie".  I never let Him get away with that story and reminded Him every time We spoke that I still had suspicion's about His allegiance's. Gregg would always laugh as I would swear on My mothers grave that everything I told Him was the truth and nothing but the (slightly embellished) truth.
I truly will miss His understated humor, ability to laugh at himself and His ability to meet and charm with the politeness of a Southern Gentleman of which He was...
                                                               God Speed Gregg...

Laura and I are in shock. Greg was an amazing guy his passion for taking pictures at the many events he attended will become a lasting tribute to his legacy the history in pictures of our great sport credits to Greg Adams. Each year on his journey to Loring Greg would visit with Laura and I we would spend the time talking about racing.  Our hopes and our dreams he was such a great guy Gregs inspiration certainly helped me along enormously.  Greg would call Laura lady bug she loved the name and loved Greg as well.  I just cant believe hes gone in ones life theres the true friends you will never get over losing  Gregs passing is going to hurt for a long time.  If it was possible to spread his ashes where he loved to be  on the salt I would help with a parachute deployment happily. A send off for a great man.
Heres a brief shot of Greg doing what he loved helping others.

We can all hope people say such nice things about us when we go.
Always loved his enthusiasm and way that his shots were like news coverage of events. He'll be missed.
Thanks Gregg, Godspeed.

I only met Gregg in person once but was always excited to see pictures and his scoop from events I could not attend. Phenomenal human being. His enthusiasm for the sport was not hidden in a garage but rather broadcast for all of us.

RIP Gregg:

Before I ever met Gregg in person, I followed the "build thread" for his Rampage through this forum.  We started chatting about Rampage stuff, as I was just starting my own Rampage project.  He visited my home a couple of different times, and even donated some "leftover" parts from his Rampage to use on mine.  I loaned him my rotisserie to fix some issues on his trucklet, and he drove all the way from NC to MO to borrow the rotisserie and to return it.

Gregg was a super guy with a kind heart.  It's sad that he never had a chance to drive his own LSR Rampage project on the salt.  It was pretty close to being "Race Ready" the last time I talked to him.  I wonder if there's a chance that some of us could help complete his vision, and finish that little LSR truck that he'd been working on.

Steve.
