Monte, do you reckon USFRA will render an early decision (before entry deadline) on the meet this year?
John
-
Second question; will USFRA move registration closing to a later date?
John
-
According to Ellen at USFRA last week-they are full speed ahead and it will be a go as long as conditions remain the same! Didn?t ask and she didn?t say about the early deadline but I would figure it will remain the same- hope we get to go!! :clap
-
My guess is we will know before July 15... I'm sending an entry
-
I?m with you! Positive waves and vibes!! See all on the salt!

I apologize for being slow to respond. The USFRA has not been able to hold our monthly club meetings, including one that should have been tonight. This of course has put us behind in what would be our normal planning and scheduling for the World of Speed.
Dennis and Larry made a visit to the salt recently and found that it is drying and relatively smooth. However, they have not been able to verify that any pumping was performed by Intrepid this past winter. There are so many variables facing us currently, that we have not been comfortable saying with any certainty that World of Speed will or will not go forward this year.
The USFRA officers have been staying in contact with each other, and as it stands now, we will have a July club meeting and use that forum to make some decisions. Until then, you will just have to be patient with us. We want to make informed decisions that will be in the best interest of the racers, club members, volunteers, and the salt flats.
I will do a better job of keeping all of you up to date with the information as it becomes available.

I guess I stand corrected and apologize for possibly incorrect info- I will now be sitting back and still keeping my fingers crossed 🤐 sorry if I over-stepped u Monty

No need to apologize, we are struggling to come up with any solid decisions. Wait and see is the best we can say so far. We also do not want to overstate salt conditions. That may be the ultimate deciding factor, more than virus conditions.
-
As usual you are the voice of reason Monty - thank you- Ed
-
Monty, is the July meeting still on?
-
I'm not Monty; but in case he takes a while to respond, here is your answer, from USFRA
facebook page.

The July 1 meeting is scheduled to be held at Hogan Park (750 W 1500 S, Woods Cross) at 7:00 PM. There is a pavilion with benches, but you are welcome to bring your own chair in order to better social distance. Masks are encouraged as well. You may also want to use mosquito repellant. This is an important meeting to discuss World Of Speed. We look forward to finally seeing everyone again!

Hope to hear something positive from yesterday?s meeting. I would like to send in my entry but will not until there is word the meet will happen and enough hotel, restaurant and vital services are open too.

Me too. Surely, someone at the meeting must know what has been decided.

We did in fact have our meeting last night. It was quite well attended.
Thanks to everyone that came out in support of the USFRA.
There have been some decisions made and some issues still to be determined. First off, it was decided that we will proceed to plan for hosting the World of Speed this September. There are of course things that will be beyond our control and you all pretty well know that Covid-19 will have a major say in what transpires.
Salt conditions will play a big roll in the decision making process as well.
That said, there are two remaining hurdles for us to clear before we can keep going. We decided to set a deadline of July 31st as our first go, no go, date. We will need to have 100 paid entries at that time for us to move forward from there. If there is a cancelation, we will give refunds to those that registered. Also the late fees we'll be waived until the July 31st date.
Another concern is that we be able to get people here from the SCTA that can serve to certify the records. No record certifiers, no meet.
So, if you plan to attend, please send in your entry right away.
More info as we move along in this process.
-
I lost records two times when you used an SCTA certifier. I guess he didn't even look in their Log Books as they'd been turned down out of Impound and Inspection at the previous SpeedWeek. I got 'em both back, but it was a hassle. You'd think after the first time he would have been embarrassed. It's too bad you can't use your own certifiers.
-
Monte - you and your team are the best. Thx in advance.

Thanks for the update Monte. Will be sending in my entry this weekend.

-
Monte, other than knowing registration count, what additional unanswered questions does USFRA need answered before a final decision to hold WoS?
John
-
unless I hear its cancelled , My entry will be sent this weekend, Looking forward to a great event!
-
THAT'S THE ATTITUDE!!! :clap :clap
-
Hotel booked....sending in entry next week

Breaking news from the USFRA:
After much thought and with a heavy heart the Utah Salt Flats
Racing Association has elected to cancel the 2020 World of Speed.
Watching the record number of Covid 19 cases each day in Utah and the
surrounding states we have decided the safety of our volunteers,
competitors and spectators is number one. A large percentage of the
USFRA volunteers are in the high risk category and we do not want to
put these people in a position that may compromise their health and
safety. To everyone who entered for the 2020 World of Speed you will
receive a full refund. The USFRA will be back with a 2021 World of
Speed. Stay well and hope to see you then.

Thanks for the early info Monte, that is sad, as it sounds like we might have had decent salt.......... best to all ,stay safe and see ya next year ! :-( :-( muutt
-
Monte, thank you very much for letting us know well in advance. As much as it hurts, your notice saves many racers additional pain trying to complete preparations for September.
John
-
Monte, thank you for getting the word out as early as you could. I know this wasn't an easy decision for USFRA to make.
-
Tough decision but the right one. Thanks Monty.
-
A tough decision but a considerate one.
This crap is no joke.

Monte,
Hard decision but the right one. Salt racing has more than its' share of "aged" participants (I'm one of them) and none of us want this stuff. We WILL be there next year as World Of Speed is our favorite meet.

We pulled out of SW hoping the extra month would make the difference, but understand and thanks for the early notice, until next year!!
-
With no BMST or WoS , should we expect to see an even larger turnout at SpeedWeek this year?
-
I'm sorry to hear that WOS is cancelled but I understand the circumstances.
-
Dang. We thought by that time the border would be open. Next year it will be. Thanks Monty for the early decision.
Be safe all
See ya next year
Ted
-
What does the USFRA know that the SCTA doesn?t?
-
... the border would be open. Next year it will be...
I'll make a note on August of my 2021 calendar- "Ted said .....". :-D
