Title: BONNEVILLE & How easy we can adhere to "Social Distancing"
Post by: DRW on March 27, 2020, 03:06:40 PM
Bonneville 2020   I Hope the Promoters of any event at The Salt for 2020 take into consideration ,
How much room we have in the pits, How much room we have in line, How much room we have to stay a good amount of distance from one another in these weird times !
Pits, We could pit with one pit in between left open .
Sign in, Set up cones, And say you have to stand at a cone & No closer at a set distance.
Tech, Same thing , A Cone or designated line that keeps each team away from the others.
Staging, Same Same
I mean The salt is Big, We could pull off keeping our distance if need be, I hope these things are being thought of before any Hasty decisions are made .
Just a Thought ?

Sid, we have to get used to the thought that about 50 - 60 % of the populace will eventually be carriers of this dang Chy-nah virus. Then, hopefully, it will burn itself out and "herd immunity" takes over.
Keeping my fingers crossed for all my friends to be asymptomatic!
My crew chief, "world famous" Helmut has been struggling to breathe on a ventilator in the local hospital for the last week . . . it is serious sh*t.

Stay healthy,
Willi

The real issue being is sending people from all over the world into a single town and reintroduced it or it going back to another area that may have already recovered.

I have come to grasp with the realization that racing probably won't take place this summer

The most expert advice I get says the social distancing and isolation reduce the peak death rate and make the crisis easier for the medical system to handle.  It does not eliminate the virus.  Old folks will continue to be in danger for some time, I was told.  How long? I asked, as I am a pre-codger.  "We do not know" was the answer.  No racing this year for me.

Yeah I agree Willi, this is scary $hit alright, sorry to hear Helmut has a dose! I'd been extra busy with more broke down trucks than usual but figured my life is more important & stopped going out to work a few days ago. If I run out of food I'll go up the back & shoot something or go down to the river & hook some fish. There's also cows between me & the river!

I can not comprehend how big 6.2 TRILLION dollars is. So if you google 6.2 trillion seconds it comes into perspective. If the Gov't uses all of the stimulus package, 2.2 plus 4 which you know they will, pretend they could put back one dollar every second 24 X 7 until it is paid back how long would it take? 196,000 YEARS.

If you are working on trucks I assume both hands are working. Good news.

You're right Terry, I have about 1-1/2 hands working now. I really though my mechanic days were over last year & I couldn't see how I could ever finish the liner. We were into this year before I could continue building AN lines.
Now this China Virus is hunting humans & as usual too many people are either too ignorant or arrogant to understand how bad the situation really is.
At this stage all we can do is slow down the infection rate to where the health system can handle it. When or if it goes beyond that you will be putting dead bodies out in the street for the garbage trucks to pick up & toss into mass graves.
When we get past this horror the free world needs to bury the CCP in a financial grave for what they've done so stop buying Chinese junk.
We owe you how much? Not any more we don't Butthole!!! You owe us.
  Sid.

The problem with genetic animal to human flu transmission was known for years in commie China.  The bird flu originated in a wet market like in Wuhan and SARS might have some connection to them in Guanxdaog province.  Traffic and selling endangered and protected species does not help matters.  The govt did nothing to solve these known problems.  That, and their slow response puts a lot of blame for the current problem on them.  The other China, Taiwan, is innocent, so I call it the Red China flu.  Credit needs to go to those who deserve it.

Last weekend, a friend, doctor sent me this link to UCSD Johns Hopkins engagement.

It is interesting, especially the bloodpressure med comment. The Q&A session at end was the most telling in regards to BP meds.

Also note the Pangolin theory is dispelled here.

Hi all, as with most replies here, I am in the 'old' category and being very cautious ,and the idea that the salt is 'so big' is true, BUT we would all have to have a place to stay, and I ,for one, wouldn't want to be mingling with thousands of people from all over , in the confines of a hotel! And that's IF the hotels are allowed to open. As most have said, I'm in a wait and see approach, but NOT holding my breath ( except when I'm out  lol8) Stay safe all-Here's hoping

I think the best indicator would be if and when the casinos open.  No lodging, no event.

Through the years, the Australians have managed to put on events without casino assistance.

This year, of course, is a different matter.

Someone said we could do it and keep our distancing.  Pretty hard to do when belting someone in, the starter checking them at the line.  I'd guess if they got in trouble, you'd just wait 'til it all blows over.

Sid,

Here is an old saying that sadly is very true.

The 6 foot social distance is a balance between absolute safety and definite contagion from exhaled breath, skin cells, perspiration.
For a sneeze, 15 feet isn't enough if the wind is wrong.
