Title: holes
Post by: neandethal on February 12, 2020, 01:04:40 PM
Hi folks,
still on with building my motorcycle streamliner and have a question about drag. I am running a turbo which will be near the top of the fibreglass fairing and obviously running pretty damn hot. I would like to add some means of heat dispersion but read that louvres are bad news for drag coefficient, and wondered if a plethora of say 6mm holes would have the same negative effect or would actually be ok. Obviously i can add heat shield cloth and foil to stop the fiberglass cooking but keeping the engine bay cool is a good idea.
any thoughts/experience most welcome, cheers Ian

Have you looked into a NACA Inlet? I think that would be much more streamlined and have more volume than holes.
I built a fairing that had a NACA inlet for the turbo intake and although I did not have a way to test it, it seemed like it did not add too much drag.

Hi Don, was certainly going to use NACA for the intake, wasnt sure it exhausted in the same way but an opening is an opening, cheers.
