For Methanol fuel, what test fluid would you/do you recomend using ??

What are you testing to discover?

Uniformity/Sprayability, so I figger something with properties similar to Methanol without the worrie of combustion,,

ie, something with a SG of .792

Mineral spirits will probably be your most affordable solution. The viscosity will be a little off, but you can get a few different specific gravity weights if you look for it. Methanol looks to have a specific gravity around 0.78. The Klean Strip Odorless Mineral Spirits from Home Depot has a specific gravity of 0.78. You can usually find the MSDS sheets from the manufacturer on-line and that will give you a lot of the properties that you can compare with the type of fuel you want to run. Here is a link for the Klean Strip stuff http://www.kleanstrip.com/uploads/documents/GKSP94006_SDS-GL251.pdf (http://www.kleanstrip.com/uploads/documents/GKSP94006_SDS-GL251.pdf)

N-Heptane is a fluid that has become the "standard" for injector test stands, but is kinda pricey. Last I looked it was a $100.00+ per liter.

I have used mineral spirits a lot. Just be sure to have your area well ventilated and wear some safety equipment, it really burns when it gets in your eyes and will make you smell funny for a day or so when a line comes off and hoses you down.

I think "kinematic viscosity" is a more important criterion than specific gravity.

Specific gravity isn't what is important in this case- it is only a measure of density. Two fluids can have similar specific gravity but one can pour like water and the other like Karo syrup.

The term "Viscosity" is pretty well understood since we all use an oil of some viscosity number in our engines, etc. "Kinematic" viscosity is the apparent thickness (resistance to flow) of a fluid when it is flowing fast through a small hose, orifice, fuel injector, etc. Viscosity of many fluids changes as the flow rate increases.

An extreme example of this is a "Non-Newtonian" fluid. Drop a marble into a pan of it and it hits the surface and sinks to the bottom as one would expect. However, if it hits the surface at high speed, the fluid acts like concrete.

These questions may be on the Final Exam.   :-D

Blinker fluid. :-D

Running alky I test them with alky but flush them with gas.

Touche, Johnboy. I should have said "dynamic" instead of "kinematic" viscosity.

That viscosity chart confirmed my recollection from high school Chemistry- that glass is a "super-cooled liquid" not really a solid.

So your saying too do the various tests with Alky, but then flush the tester/cleaner system with a non corrosive fluid ??

Appears as tho I will use the real thing, that is Methanol  8-),, Thankyou gentleman  :-)

Have had a little time to play and found Methanol gave similar readings on a set of injectors I had tested elsewhere  8-),,

when flushing the system out with WD40 (.82 sg) I decided to see what results that would produce, way off, airates (spelling?) real bad, which backs up Mantra22 advice,,
