There are clearly a number of racers that this will be their first time in competition and of course many racers trying for that elusive goal. So what do you hope to achieve this year. Then we can look back and see who achieved what.
For me my goal is to get seat time, do the best I can and make my team and sponsors proud. Speed wise I really hope to run over 225mph..fingers crossed. Lol

To get visit the Mayors in the afternoon and again the next morning

For me it's easy: I want all of the porta potties to stay upright.

Especially when we're in them, Jon! :-D

I have found that when (constantly) asked "how fast will it go?", people are really disappointed if "200mph" is not mentioned in my response. So I tell them "well, Id like to see 200 !". If I see them immediately raise their BS flag (i.e. they have some realistic idea of how fast a 100cc motorcycle could go ) I add "but I'll settle for 110."
And I will, too! :-D :-D

We started out 2 years ago to capture 4 records and get 2 Red hats: G/BGRMR, G/BFRMR, H/BGRMR, & H/BFRMR. Bonneville is a harsh taskmaster as we have 3 out of 4 records but no Red hats yet. So, we're going for the last one in H/BGRMR, and hope to hit the minimums for the Hat.
Coming back with more HP and a smoother canopy, along with another year of valuable experience which is worth more than everything else!
Oh, and the ultimate goal: Make new friends, see amazing cars/bikes, swap stories!
-
First goal will be certainly trying to get this new engine running and dialed before August. It's getting uncomfortably close.
But the goals I set out a few years back still hold.
The first MG to set a record on the salt was Goldie Gardner's MG EX135. That was 1951.
In honor of that history, what I'm looking for is 135 hp on the dyno, and a pass at 135 mph.
To quote my press release in 2014:
"Through continued work and racing development, it is Milwaukee Midget Racing’s intent to keep and maintain class dominance in the one liter stock bodied sports car category, and maintain MG’s presence as both a historic and relevant marque in Land Speed Racing."
Probably drink some beer as well.

After 2 years of trying to sort out the turbo EFI setup, we hope to get up close to 300. Let’s hope for really nice salt as the last couple years have been tough.
See ya on the salt
-
Well lets see.... goals or wish list?
1. Get to the track
2. Get through tech
3. Go A to B
4. Qualify on 308 record
5. Back it up
6. Be the first to break 400 on gas
7. Back it up again!
8. Give George and team a run for the Hot Rod top speed trophy
I mean if your going to dream dream big!

Ha yes and stay ‘fresh’.

I forgot to add :
Everyone have safe but fast week and please drive or ride safely....there is always another day.

I second Sparkie's wish.
On Stainless's and Ron Joliff's recommendations I went, (kicking and screaming) into EFI.
I got behind with my project because at 77 my headlights got yellowed and foggy. Do you know how small those little wires are??? I don't want to let the smoke out. In the last few weeks I got the yellow sanded off and re-polished and even found out amazingly there is little bitty printing on those wires that tells me where they go. Time to get busy to fulfill a dream.

We are still working with pumps n pills... lol. Tried electronic and found it extremely frustrating so back to what we know and understand. Monitoring wires only for us.

Well it took me six runs on the salt in two years to get a red hat running a vintage engine most would be more than happy just with that. To accomplish that took untold hours long days and nights of end less work and preparation. However this salt stuff is as bad as drugs were hooked so now Im looking at adding speed to my Flathead Ford record old motors go fast with a lot of hard work and A whole lot of luck. Now maybe if the coarse conditions allow keeping the gas pedal planted on the firewall should get us what we want time will tell. In the mean time its more untold hours long days and nights repeating what worked for us so far. See you on the salt.

Last year, my mid range was terrible and nobody makes needles to richen my carbs at mid-range. I think I have that problem fixed, so my goal would be 225 mph.

Speaking of SpeedWeek stuff: I've got toilet duty, as usual, and if you want a "private" unit - for your pit, for instance, or your campsite - you can contact me and I'll refer you to Trevor Inman at Honey Buckets, the porta potty vendor.
You'll pay rental and pumping fees - the latter based on how often you request they clean it - daily, every other day, etc). You can have a padlock to put on the door, too, to keep the unit private for your people, not everyone on the salt. Handwash stations and ADA (handicapper) units are available, too.
Get in touch with me, directly to Trevor Inman at Honey Buckets, or ask JoAnn Carlson (SCTA office) for contact help. For the sake of your G I tract's curiosity, we rent about 6 dozen units for SCTA/BNI, and there have been as many as 90 "private" units rented, too.

Yeah, maybe call it "Salt Talks".
Oh wait, we already have that!
-
Yeah -- Nancy and I, and before us Jon Amo, have held Salt Talks - a Land Speed Racer Gathering, we call it - on Sunday evening of SpeedWeek. It's hamburgers and chicken breasts and stuff and bring your own alky and chairs, and there's a lie detector set up so that nobody can say he's gone faster than he really has, and we won't listen to any more stories about how fast you would have gone if only xxxxx hadn't broken. We usually have a raffle and maybe t-shirts and all of that.
See you on the salt.
-
Ah yes we all "should" go faster than we do... on paper anyway
-
Shucks, I guess I should have built one of them Rear Engined Modified Roadster thingies. I guess we are hoping to get there, pass inspection and run either a AA or B in PP and qualify for a red hat. After 19 years and about $25K, it just might be time. But, I am convinced this place is determined to crush me!

First is get a running car to the salt
With that being said. I'm still looking for my first 200mph run. Anything over that is a bonus. The record is 258.3 258.6 would be great with a backup run the same or more. It's all fun

I am looking to buy a pre-entry.

Life has gotten in the way of making any progress on building my car...
But my goal this year is to get there as a spectator for the first time (possibly help a team needing an extra crew member?).
-
My goal... not to fall out of the timing tower. Will be watching lots of you guys run this year. Go fast, be safe.
-
Ours will be to get our record back 1000-MPBF
-
Speedweek 2018 will be my first Salt flats event. I will not be running anything this year. But i do hope to gain some valuable knowledge and some friends along the way.
-
Bravo, Rocketman (woops -- sorry -- that one's taken) Roktshp: You've hit on the great way to learn about the Bonneville stuff. Spectate the first time you're there. There is so much to learn and see and enjoy -- that if you're trying to race you'll miss lots of stuff. LOTS of stuff that you really oughta see and do. And you'll indeed have a chance to meet a huge bunch of great people (I'll be there, too) that'll shock you when you come back next time. You'll be remembered and welcomed back.
See you on the salt.
-
Be there! My vacation slip is signed! Need to get the AC working in my Roadmaster!!! It was 100* most of the way thru Idaho last year. I don't want to experience any part of the trip without AC!!!
-
Speaking of goals, many of you will probably have the goal of comfortably emptying your bowels during SpeedWeek. To that end I'll mention that SCTA/BNI has about 75 regular toilets on order for the event. We'll do our best to place them well.
But lots of racers want private rental units. If you're interested you need to contact Trevor Inman at Honey Buckets to make the arrangements and pay. His number is 801 330 7219. Be ready to think about not just about the unit but also having it cleaned on schedule and whether you want stuff like a hand wash station or an ADA-compliant (a/k/a handicap) toilet.
Trevor and his crew will deliver the units to the SSS pit and youse guys may arrange to pick them up from there.
See you on the salt.
-
Well sadly I'll be there as a spectator, again! :-P This will be our third year in a row and last year I swore, I would never come back to Bonneville...........................as a spectator :-D

See you on the salt 8-)

Sorry, Rick,

If the track is as good as they say I think we have a chance but you never know what could bite you in the ass. Next year we’re doing a different program so if we don’t get it done this year could be a few years before we have another chance

For the first time since 1978 I have the opportunity to be a speck tater
See you on the salt 8-)
My goals are simple:
A/ Get "permission" to go . . . . .
2/ Complete K16 assembly, development, tuning and installation into the Milwaukee Midget (we are close and closing in, see the build diary . . . but engine should be completed 7/17 or 7/18)
d/ Get the car to "Bendover", hoping for "good salt" . . . . . .
Don't worry Bob, if the Milwaukee Midget makes it, we will have something for you to do, including slurping up various "liquids" . . . . . . . .
-
Our testing is now complete on Friday the 13th at the LTA event in Maine I drove our rear engine modified roadster powered by a gas burning supercharged little Ford Flathead V-8 to A top speed of 200.9 MPH Im happy with the results next run will take place on the salt. The goal to add more to the record time will tell.

Spectate, watch and learn as much as possible, take loads of pictures, and meet loads folks. Partner and I will only be there a couple days but there will be plenty to take in and do. Next year we'll hopefully bring a truck to get a little salt on the tires and start earning licenses to compete.
-
Goals? How about "My goal is to make sure I'm prepared for the sun and heat."? This is today's forecast for Wendover.
-
Goal? Not to Pees off the officials.

To go 500mph plus with the Turbinator II.
-
:-o WOW! :-o

I made my all my goals and then some. I spent another fabulous, grand, glorious day on the "SALT" with J.R. and his dad. I got my hugs from George Fields, Betty Burkland, Frankie Silva, Dan Warner, the entire Spencer Racing family! And to top it off, I saw Danny Thompson break a record. Great day!!!!!!!!
-
I made it back out after a several year break. That was worth it. Next year I will have a different plan. Probably bring my son who will be 12 and maybe just spectate for the first time since 02.
-
Good morning gentlemen. Sounds are good, the Synergy really sounded sweet!
-
Life has gotten in the way of making any progress on building my car...
But my goal this year is to get there as a spectator for the first time (possibly help a team needing an extra crew member?).
Goal met!
Local (to me) motorcycle racer, Mike in Tacoma (http://www.landracing.com/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=6215), took me up on my offer to crew for him, and off to the salt I went. I think I ended up being a genuine help to him and he helped me learn a lot that I wouldn't have gotten just watching.
I left the salt with new ideas for my car, loads of inspiration, a bad case of salt fever, and a group of new friends that I look forward to seeing again next year.
Thanks Mike!

That's how it happens.

GOALS MET HERE AS WELL
1st target was to get there which we did.
2. We got through tech with no problems.
3. Seat time...5 runs.
4. Got my A and my AA licences
5. Ran the fastest the car has been with this combo at 265 and set the class record at 258mph.
All considered a great week.
Huge thanks to Seldom Seen Slim and great to say hello at long last.
