Title: ECTA June meet reflections
Post by: saltracer1 on June 04, 2018, 09:09:30 AM
Well we made a last minute decision to compete at the ECTA's June event. As with most last minute deals there were some things that could have been avoided, like getting the dates straight with the wife's and employer's way ahead of time. Also, I highly recommend pre-registering if at all possible. We could have been racing much earlier if all the drivers, 3, had been in the system and matched with the appropriate classes as we can run three classes with our car.
Anyway we had a great time! Thanks to all the ECTA organizers and volunteers.

XF/BGC   Stafford Landry  149.5
XF/BFALT Damon Braus     150.3
XF/BGALT Phillip Landry    143 (set in April)

BIG THANKS to the folks who organized and made the event possible.

I wasn't racing myself, but was there in support of 2 teams who were competing.

Keep up the great work.  The Arkansas venue is wonderful for our purposes.

Steve.

I attended the June meet on Saturday with a friend of mine. Judging by license plates I saw on many tow vehicles I'd say we had it easy since we only had about a 2 hour drive on I-55 to get to Blytheville, AR

To say I had an enjoyable day at my first ever LSR event would be an understatement. In another thread I've already been asking questions about perhaps competing/running in my "driver" '89 Vette without making it any less functional for street use. I think my wife likes the Vette as-is and doesn't want me making it too much of a race car. If that doesn't end up being practical I already have some thoughts of building a dedicated race car, perhaps a Lakester, mostly because they just scream LSR to me! But, with garages already full of cars and motorcycles I don't know that I want another car, a dedicated race car, around.

Blytheville seemed to me, as a first time attendee to be a good location and nice facility. Although it's the first ECTA or LSA event I've attended, just a couple miles off of an Interstate highway in a town that's big enough to have some facilities seems like a good thing. Other than a couple short glitches in racing from timing system malfunction, the racing seemed to go smoothly and a lot of runs were made without a lot of dead time between runs. We didn't stay real late in the afternoon but I think it was the "Big Red Camaro" that ran 240+ shortly before we left. Just the sight and sound of that car, at that speed, made the trip and day spent worthwhile.

I'll also comment that as my friend and I walked around the pit area we talked with a number of racers and crew members. Everyone was very friendly and open to talking and answering questions about what was going on. That was very helpful to us. BTW, my friend who's not particularly a "car guy" talked like he'd be interested in attending again. Crew member for me perhaps?  :-D
