hey all,
Well were getting close to the new roadster so I need to start work on the push truck. I have a 2500 Duramax that has a bolt on 2" front receiver. I looked at a bunch of push trucks over the last season and just don't remember seeing a push bar that was mounted on a single center receiver.
So what do you think... bad idea? I suppose I could weld a couple of receivers to the right and left of the center unit making for dual slide in receivers to attach push bumper? Not 100% sure of what the cars total weight will be... C/AIR.
Any advice you know I appreciate it.

I have done it both prior Ford Excursion (Fix Or Repair Daily) now replaced with Silverado 2500 duramax. You can get a hitch insert with a flat plate at your local trailer store. Easily bolt 2x8's or similar to that at the appropriate height. Works great. I can take a photo and send if you want.

I have a 2" hitch receiver mounted to the left chassis rail on the van & the truck with a stinger mounted push bar & that centers the race car to the push truck driver.

Huh.. Well that makes a lot of sense. Looked up images of "stinger push bar" is that more like a brush guard? Really like the plan of putting the push car driver behind the center of roadster!

Sid's comments good. If you can see the car easily from push truck maybe not big thing but my car is sort of low and the push driver sometimes has some trouble lining up initially. Push off from the line is ok. My push bar currently is mounted in the trailer for transport but you can see the insert and mount as well as how it looks on the truck.

It's just a regular looking push bar with a single 2" tube in the middle that slides into the receiver mounted to the chassis rail in front of the driver. I also use the front mount for maneuvering trailers around, I couldn't get the liner on the trailer at the shop without it.
There's a tow hook location on a Chevy chassis that you can bolt one up to.

Here is what I did. Horizontal bar across the back of the roadster, vertical bar on the front of the truck. Hitch mount on the truck came from J.C. Whitney (they are popular with boat owners, it keeps the drive wheels on the dry part of the launch ramp). We only use it to push the car off the line so turning is not a problem. We use a tow bar for getting the car around the lake bed. Being off center is not a problem. I just line up the end of the windshield wiper blade with the back of Tony's helmet and it puts me right in the center of the car.

This is how we handle it... the blue tape is the aiming sight for the driver... lately we have skipped the tape and use an old magnetic CB antenna base for the rear sight... just keep the sight positioned on a fixed point.... it helps to tell the race car driver not to drive all over the course during the push. :roll:
Our push bar is about 20 inches wide.

Having a gun sight sticking up is desirable, being a country boy I have a short piece of rebar welded to the pushbar that I park a piece of pex pipe on. We're just oozing with hi-tech! :-D
