Title: How much hp needed for 200mph in 1.5 mile for C5?
Post by: dbs1 on October 13, 2017, 09:17:28 AM
2004 Stock Z06.  26.75 rear tire with 3.42 gears.  510 rwhp at Oct 2016 MMM which was on the warm side left me about 12mph shy of hitting 200mph.
With some cooler weather how much more hp will we need to make it happen?

if you have a good estimate for your Cd and frontal area, this might help. If nothing else you can do some whatit analysis.

Oh, I can't help myself. Ron White would likely answer "Just enough to get you to the sene of the crash".

Rather than more HP, are you allowed any aero improvements? Gearing changes and engine mods are far more expensive and involved. If aero improvements are allowed, find out what will give best bang for the buck. I tout the Darko Technologies wind tunnel in Ogden, Utah because for a modest fee (by racing standards) you will find what you need to increase mph and improve handling. Worth every penny you spend there.

If Darko is too far away (looks like it may be), there is at least one other full size tunnel near you. Can't remember the name but many bicycle manufacturers test components there.

A2 wind tunnel is near Charlotte, NC, I think.

That's the one I was thinking of, Jon.

20% more than what you have now so the 100 suggested above is about right. Either HP or aero improvement

510 x (200/188)^3 = 614

Thanks guys!  After a little number crunching it seemed without doing any aero and on a day with very cool weather, low da and possibly a tail wind, 75rwhp would be close.  On another warm day with not so great conditions it might take another 125rwhp, so all things kinda ok I think you're right, another 100rwhp.

Thanks for the input!!!

This may be way too late to count for much (functionally), but here goes anyway.  In just 1.5 miles of acceleration, the
mass of the vehicle may be a significant factor, if still accelerating through the timing lights.  You might want to think about
shaving off some weight.  Good luck.
