Hey guys,
Rookie driver here hoping to clarify the rulebook notes on necessary suit ratings. The rulebook says the following: "SFI 3.2A/10 or /5 with full Nomex underwear"
So, I'm trying to decipher if 3.2A/10 is goo w/o underwear and I only need it with /5 or if they BOTH require Nomex Underwear? Anyone able to clarify this for me?
Many thanks in advance!

Just what it says I believe.... 10 required or a 5 with the added protection of underwear
If you're on fire, you want everything you have.... they listed the minimum... max is a 20 with underwear....

What Stainless said, no matter what you buy, it will still be cheaper'n a skin graft. Me, I wear kevlar long underwear under my elephant hide racing leathers and my bike was faster on the trailer than on the salt.

Nancy and I have Kevlar long underwear under our leathers, too. Glad to hear we're not the only ones.

I believe a 10 is a holdover from many years ago. I don't know if anyone makes them anymore. You are best to find a 15 or it your planning on staying around look for a 20. We have both bought new but already made but would fit. We have a 5 for our 1/2 mile dirt car but only need a 1...I guess we are firesuit poor.

I agree with Worley that the phrase in the book is ambiguous. It could mean-
1> [SFI 3.2A/10 or /5] with full Nomex underwear
or
2> SFI 3.2A/10 or [/5 with full Nomex underwear]
However, the phrase is defining a minimum requirement, so it's not likely that 1> was meant (more than one minimum).

Don't over think it.... you can do a 5 with Nomex underwear... or you can wear a 10.... I have a 15, if you think you will ever go 175... get at least a 15

Thanks for the responses, everyone. I'm renting gear, so I just want to show up with the right stuff.
I have some buddies that race and own suits they'd loan me, but they are not labeled as SFI certified. Guessing the FIA certifications aren't accepted? Anyone know?

I read the rule to mean you need a total of 10.
1)SFI 3.2A/10 a suit by itself that is rated 10.
2)"or /5 with full Nomex underwear"
a suit that is rated for 5, + set of underwear Nomex /Kevlar adds 5 for a total of 10.
