One of my busiest weekends of the year.
We rent PA systems to about a dozen cemeteries in the area for events on Memorial Day. I just got back from a minor issue on one - they needed an extra microphone.
The service will start in about an hour, but the sexton and management had put the whole grounds into a splendid state of opulence.
I was reminded of when I'd help my grandfather, who owned a monument company. There was always a push to get markers in before Memorial day - he often referred to it as "Decoration Day".
His brother passed away just this last year.

ElRoy served in Burma during WWII and during the Korean war. His other brother, Otto, was killed in Europe.
My grandfather didn't serve - he wanted to - but was working for a large bakery, and his job was deemed necessary on the home front. He always felt a bit guilty about losing his brother while he "pounded dough".
It was good getting out to a cemetery today.

Called my two sons who served. My father served In II and my Brother VN.
MM I can relate to the guilt-- I volunteered in '62 didn't pass the hearing test---my brothers hearing was worse than mine but by '66 they had decide that if you could see them corrected that was good enough!!

One thing that makes Memorial Day so tough is that many of them
never made it home. The emptiness of the loss of their relative and
the realization that the remains never returned drove a double sword
into their hearts. Such is war. Such is human sorrow.
