Well? Let's hear what's going on, what happened, and so on. Hope someone checks in here with details and pics.
-
They shut down about an hour early due to poor course conditions. They did not even get through the 1st round.
They will move the track for tomorrow.
Top time thus far is 251 from the Ferguson streamliner.
-
As usual from me, got details and lots of pics!

I gotta almost all-white page with some pushbuttons or something on it. Is there a secret sequence?
This intranet thing has me cornfused.

Great pictures, including one of a roadster with a relocated fuel tank.
Sorry, Jim . . . couldn't resist . . .

How do you get there from here?
(Really!)
-
I heard there was a photo in circulation.
(Or was it of the roadster circulating?)

662 car on our second pass with the Tex t-101 trans with straight cut gears and dog shifters. Listen to the spur gears whine and the shifts are clutchless and clean. 152 Sat. 156 Sun. still rich and spinning the tires.

We look forward to some of that Jim

It sounds like a Waring blender making margaritas - and there's nothin' wrong with that.
I still say it's the prettiest little roadster I've ever seen actually racing.
Wayno - did you finally get around to crackin' it open this time, or are you still sneaking up on it?
-
Wane had oil pressure problems.
-
Jim, your first run sounded fantastic. Sounded like some pedaling on the second run. I was just glad it didn't go around. Not insinuating that it would or has a tendency to but the course was so bad and roadsters being roadster... well, you know.
-
Made my second ever pass in my RMR yesterday. Being that when I ran at the meet in October I wasn't a club member I got 0 points so my starting position over the weekend was horrid. I was one of the many poor souls who didn't get to run Saturday. Fortunately I got to run yesterday morning before the track got too torn up. Ran 153 mph. Was supposed to keep it under 150 to get my D license but got a little distracted on my shifts. Jill Shannon signed off on the pass after I explained myself. Went and found Dan Warner and he wound up giving me a C license. Wasn't going to argue with the Mayor. Im still planning on working my way up to higher speeds at the next couple of meets though.

We had a little difficulty with the course . . .

I think we made some of the track's in Jim's video . . . or maybe we made some ourselves.

Nathan, Tony said it required his attention but he never felt it was getting out of hand. To quote "it has been a lot worse". We were only spinning the tires 6 mph in the lights.

I knew you had spun but I wasn't going to rat on you.
-
Come on, Nathan, 'fess up. I was just talking to your dad on another matter . . .
-
Id much rather spin than keep my foot in it through the lights, the shut down area and out the back door

Seemed to work for me...

Hey Stan, been there Done that!!! :-D

beats locking them up and blowing out the tires for sure :-D

I wasn't sure if you were Willie or not. Yeah I'd say spinning worked out for you. Unlike the guy in the modified roadster who went out the back door and then some

Nathan was drifting, trying to dust of the track for those who followed
-
Pretty close to a ten, I'd say.
Looks a bit more dramatic than the "turn out" the announcer told the crewman when he asked for the time slip!
-
on second look it seems more like a case of circular braking to me :-D
-
Anybody willing to skip the jive-talk and help this newbie understand what I'm seeing after repeatedly playing/pausing the video?
1> It appears that the course is darn close to the pits? [Yes, telephoto lens effect; I just wonder about the actual distance?]
2> For the whole time the roadster is moving backward, is the engine spinning the wheels forward?

You're right about the telephoto lens - looks are deceiving. The course is 90ft. wide and is approx. 250 ft. from the spectators. As for the engine driving the wheels, I pushed in the clutch the moment the car started to come around. I hope this helps.

Why didn't you brake at some point? How did you know what direction you were heading going backwards?

I did brake after everything calmed down - trying not to hurt anything. I figured I was going the right direction when I was backing up from the return road. I'm no world class driver, just one who has seen a few things.

Having experienced a spin myself at just over 170 some time back {not on dirt} watching your execution on controlling the car as your rolling backward was dam near perfect. No need to apply brakes and cause some other unneeded coarse direction. Well done the way I see it.

Good job. Thanks for explaining.

I just wanted to say thanks to John Wiley for the youtube video from down course...
I'm on his vid at 18:18 for my first rookie run...

You saved the rubber. That was a pro job IMO.   Nicely done.

Thank you all for your kind words.

No problem. Hope you all had a great time.
Mike.

Yup, I'd say your spin roll out was great. I saw you shooting off to the side of the course and thought 'uh oh, this is going to be bad' and then you just turned and let it roll out in a circle. I thought that was an excellent move.
And yeah, I spun. Unfortunately the car doesn't seem to tolerate a less than perfect course. Went 216.683 in October on a good course and then spun at 200 on my second run due to chewed up course (25mph cross wind probably didn't help either). The course was horrible this event and I spun on my first run - right at 200 again. Didn't bother making a second run. I think if we have any hopes of making a decent run this year it'll be after adding significant weight to the car. Until that happens, we'll be sitting out.
Good luck to those who will attempt to run fast at Elmo. I think the results of this past meet are indicative of what we'll be seeing all year. I'm actually hoping we get some spring/summer rain to try and maybe fix the lake bed up some.
-
Yah Nathan, I think you are right. this is what it will be all year. I was dissappointed with the power I could apply till I saw what everyone else was doing. Made me feel a little better, but doesn't speak well for any potential "big" runs this year.
