I am curious what others experience has been with powder coating and if it performs better than paint out on the salt. I am continually repainting things on my bike, but it is hard to stay ahead of the rust. I have heard that salt can get under the powder coating, which seems like it would defeat the purpose for me.

Urethane based topcoat over zinc chromate primer works best for me. It is a durable finish that is easy to repair. Red lead was my father's choice. Powder coating can be quite durable if applied correctly.

No hijack intended but do you guys have Tectyl over there?.
It's sprayed inside door panels on cars here that are used in coastal areas.
Toyota also use it on cars to inhibit rust while standing on the lot at the factory.
Not a paint though.

Have had no problems with Powdercoating, although I follow a rigorous cleanup procedure, followered by drowning the bike in WD40,,,

You jogged my memory when you mentioned "Tectyl".
That stuff was developed shortly before Pearl Harbor and it was a Godsend to the US Navy in salvaging the ships sunk there. Instead of complete disassembly to de-water electric motors and machinery, Tectyl was sprayed into them; it displaced seawater and allowed the motors, etc. to dry quickly and be returned to service.
