38 square kilometers. If it were round it would have a diameter of about 4 miles. Apparently it's normally a manmade lake, created by damming a river.

My thought too. Looks like it has good public use access & people fly into it unrestricted.

Salt Plains National Wildlife Refuge.... Visitors can observe migratory birds & other wildlife at this sprawling refuge established in 1930.
My guess... not open for racing.... :dhorse:

Bolivia -- that's where the birds migrate to. You've just got to get the right season.

yeah it reminds me of the time Andy and I were in southern AZ checking on a "dry lake" turns out it was formerly a bombing and gunnery range, had endangered "tiger beetals" and was a wildlife refruge---it was ok to shoot and bomb the birds but not to try to hit them with fast cars--

I've been there. The salt is maybe 1/8 thick on mud that is peppered with very sharp selenite crystals - some measuring 6 inches long by 1 inch wide. They let the general public dig up the crystals (yes, I've done it). The whole area is laced with trash and chuckholes. Also, the military used to practice their bombing on the flats, so every once in awhile something old and metal turns up. The public is warned to call the park rangers if they happen to find vintage ordnance. Don't even THINK of racing there.

I was there years ago, all that I remember was the young girls bent over digging crystals out of the salt in bikinis.
