Title: Engine breather
Post by: andychaos on February 05, 2017, 07:38:12 AM
What are the rules regarding  engine breathers for BMST. Do we have to use a catch tank or can i get away with just a filter.
Cheers Andy

No mention of catch tanks in SCTA rules but I'll be running them for sure this year. I run Dumonde Tech 2-stroke oil/gas mix and had some come out the fuel tank vent line on the trip back from the salt. Got all over the frame and the only thing that will take it off is acetone. It also worked great at removing the top layers of paint!  Definitely running catch tanks this year.

Will we be seeing you all there this year Andy?

Yes we will be there but only with the BSA, and greatly depleted numbers.
The lads with the 125 Honda are going to the Manx GP this year.

Andy - what engine, what does the breather opening look like?

It's a BSA B50, the breather is a 5/8 bore pipe which exits from the top of the primary cover.
You can just make out the black hose to the rear of the barrel also on the bike (CCM same engine) in the background.

The breather is something that is worth testing in simulated race conditions.  It took me several tries with different locations to figure out where to put it so oil would not blow out with the air.
