Folks,
On LR.com, we have Joomla (main site), Simple Machines (forum), Coppermine (gallery), and they're all driven by a MySQL database and PHP code. All those things need to play well together.
Sooooo.... the Forum needs a major upgrade that I'm planning to do very carefully and methodically between Christmas and New Year's. Maybe a couple days downtime. It's because the PHP got changed, and the forum can't handle it.
Last night, I was nibbling around the edges, seeing what I could safely accomplish now. Blew that one, and I apologize all over the place for messing up the forum. It's back now, and will stay that way until the upgrade.

Do what Ya gotta do when ever Ya gotta do it.
Few of us depend on this as our vocation so a
slight interruption is probably only significant
to SSS and if Nancy is at home, nothing else
matters.
SSS won't even know what's happening.

Go for it most of us will be playing with our new toys after Christmas so we wont be on line as much anyway.

Except my man, Mike from South Africa building the Springfield Flyer. He may suffer from withdrawal. He's way down there below the equator with a bad electric supply, very few parts options, a lousy exchange rate but armed with a ton of skill and undeterred ambition. He does require a steady dose of LR.COM to keep his sanity. Picture building a streamline on the moon!
Bob, you do important work here... just ask Mike.

Bob:
Do what you have to do when you have to do it. Most of us can handle the deprivation as long as we know before hand that it's happening. We all appreciate your contribution to maintaining the integrity of the site.
Keep up the good work.

Wow, I'll try and figger out something to keep Mike on life support while it happens. :-o
...and give notice, as it's best not to have surprises like today. :?

Googling images for "PHP code" shows a few pages of that stuff. It sure looks complicated. It is nice of you to do this. Heck, if I was doing the upgrade the site would be down for six months or maybe forever. A couple of days is no inconvenience.
-
Bob,
Do what you gotta do, whenever you need to, or can fit it in.
I've been on a self-limited participation format for a while now, and going down to zero won't be a problem for me.

Mike will be fine... we can all front load him with ideas and motivation before the upgrade. He survived a few months without his Tig welded after the electric surge debacle. I am sure Mike will be fine.
Bob, thanks for all you do.
