Garanimal, there's a dude running around out here saying that he's "Gregg" -- can you beat that?  I could tell it was an impostor, though -- this fella had a pretty good sense of humor, and I know that ain't your long suit.  I mighta talked more with him and figgered out who it was -- but he had this screwy accent that made him dang near unintelligible.

I love you too, GKA

Made it into Wendover about 10:45 AM and then to the salt about 11:30 AM.
Salt is MUCH better than when I was last here in 2014 for WoS. Lands Ends entry is fantastic.
The salt looks GREAT albeit still on the thin crust side and was damp is places. Temp for today was 84 and the weather for the next few days is going up to the mid 90's. Should finish drying all the damp places.
Quite a pleasant surprise of the number of cars and bikes for inspection/pit setup today. More to follow tomorrow.
Had a good time seeing old friends and meeting new ones! Looking for to meeting new friends in the next few days!

Enough babbling from me.....LOL!  :-D

This is my 2nd time coming to Wendover from the Salt Lake City area. I know when I see the Tree of Life, I'm getting close to the Salt flats.

I originally heard it called the Tree of Life so that's what I use!

Arrrrgh . . . .

Gregg, do you know how many years I've been hoping to see Charles' Stude on the salt?

Between that and the Kiwi Mini team, I haven't wanted to be unemployed this bad since I walked out of Hardees when I was 16!

I saw his trailer going down an off ramp yesterday about 30 miles West of Cheyenne, WY. I had to double back and go talk to him. Had a good chat then and again today as he was in line for inspection. MAN he's so pumped about being here and the car is looking REAL good. Let's hope he gets a record!
Haven't seen the Mini yet!

Hopefully my pics will ease the pain a little.

They'll be in tomorrow AM - you won't miss it.  A trailer that could haul an Abrams tank with a matchbox car on it.

I'll be on the lookout for the Mini.
Look through my pics and you will see MG is represented here with an MGA running Modified Sports. It is even the same colour as your Midget. I'll get more pics of it tomorrow.

Had a good time seeing old friends and meeting new ones! Again, like yesterday, my pics a from inspection lines as I did not get a chance to get to the pits for pics. I STILL don't have a pic of Speed Demon.....definitely tomorrow!

Weather for today was spectacular with temps in the low to mid 90's and low humidity.
As you could imagine, without having run for two years, there are a ton of folks with their bikes and cars. I heard someone say there are 465 total entries and I can believe it. Just look at my first pics from the drivers meeting this morning! There are three courses for this meet: a 5 mile long course with 3 miles to stop; a 3 mile short course with 2 miles to stop and a 2 mile rookie course with 1 mile to stop.
My pics from today are from the drivers meeting, staging for the long course, staging for the rookie course and finally staging for the short course. Never made it to the pits.....maybe tomorrow!
Had a good time seeing old friends and meeting new ones!

Now off to the car show at the Nugget.....Tough job but somebody has to do it!  :-D  :-D  :-D

Weather for today was again spectacular with temps in the low to mid 90's and low humidity.
From the SCTA website this morning, I saw (IIRC) 645 total entries and there were 26 bikes and 19 cars that qualified for records yesterday. I heard this morning that all did indeed set their respective records! Congrats!!!!
My pics from today are from the early morning record runs, staging for the long course, rookie course, short course and finally from Warnerville (Impound). I did make it to the pits but did not snap any pics there.
As previous days, had a good time seeing old friends and meeting new ones!

I might not snap any pics tomorrow as I'm really not seeing any new bikes/cars coming in. Also, tomorrow is my last day here and then my wife and I are off to Montana.

I test drove one of those when they first came out.

If I hadn't abandoned it on the side of the road, I'd still be driving it back to the dealership.

Lots more daily pictures I shot with my Brownie on the SCTA website.

Hard to get the bikes 'cause they're always in a van, on a trailer, or someone (or two) standing along side of them.

I made up with Charles after all these years and it seemed like he was done licensing on to the Long Course.

I don't know what anyone did anywhere as I was all over the place and surely suffering from sun-exposure disease.  I can't (or won't) carry enuf electronics to hear the times and then jot down some notes.

Shooting on the Long Course is a pain -- standing out past the line for an hour gets you about 6 vehicles.  A few hours of that a day is plenty.

Hope you like some of them -- I'm far from professional, but try hard once a year.

Stan

Rex, I'm looking at this picture and thinking all it would have taken was a cloudburst to have stranded the whole event.  Fortunate to have had dry weather going in and during, I'm glad SCTA-BNI was able to pull of the event, and I expect the tracks were thicker, but that just doesn't look safe.

First of all - Gregg, thanks for all the pics (as usual). I'm so tied up with keeping the car running (#1429 /RMR) and waiting in line that I rarely get to see other cars and folks, so your (and others') coverage is most welcome. And thanks for stopping by to chat out on the line. Some people have questioned the size, location, and efficiency of our "backwards NASCAR cowl induction" shown in your secret spy shot :evil:but it worked well enough to  get us gas and fuel records in "B" class (photos shown in "D" trim, unfortunately less successful). Again, thanks for all your effort both on the Salt and in ECTA.

Midget - The condition of the racing surface on the long course was (by my driver's comments) was spotty in the first and second timed miles (2 to 3, 3 to 4) and awful in the last timed mile. He persevered, however, and after setting qualifying and record times in 3 - 4, ran the last mile and gained an average 3 mph in 4 - 5. The throttle and travel data are the largest peaks and valleys I've seen. I would love to hear comments from anyone who ran the last mile with solid suspension. My shortened Ohlins dirt track coilovers got us through the rough spots.

Stan Back, it was good to see you at SpeedWeek,, I had a blast,,a bit humbled by the awesomeness of the place.. course was bumpy and slick, but I did have fun and did get 7 good safe runs in and ended up with my A License on the short course 206.917 at the 3... I ran faster on short course than I did on the long.

I will go Back

Charles - It was GREAT to see you and the Stude on the Salt at last. Congrats on licensing to the long course and on running over 200 on a marginal track.

Our FWD TFA lakester has no suspension.  On my shakedown pass i was slowly working speed up to confirm the steering/alignment tweaks made at DCW in early 2015.

It was bumpy up to thru the 4+/-, then all hell broke loose, chattering and moving to the edge of the track.  I thought it was going to come around on me, but slowly lifted steering into it and recovered.  I figure that our Cg/Cp config (40" in the right direction) saved my butt, certainly not my skill
