What is with rollbar padding. It gets hard as a rock and discolors in about a year.(http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160226/28d25beef23eb11e08e5b95235a4f92d.jpg)
Honestly, it feels about as hard as the roll bar!
This is JAZ Products SFI 45.1
It was black when purchased but is now ugly brown.

It starts hard as a rock.... ours has not discolored, it is several years old. Yours looks a little porous in the picture.... the stuff we get has a skin on the outside.

The skin is coming off. Well first turning brown then it's falling off. LOL

Is there a safety rule about that padding being fire retardant?.

SFI Spec.... I believe that includes retardant, not proof... probably some limit of toxicity during fire in there as well.

Yes, proper commas make a world of difference.

If that's UV + ozone damage, wrap it with garbage bags off season.
If it's too soft, it compresses much too fast in a wreck. The inside of your helmet is a clue to density. Ideally, it's controlled deceleration for the proximate object. If there were enough room, I'd use 2" wall thickness.
SEMA cert. doesn't mean it works as described, only that it's safe.
