Title: September in Wilmington
Post by: ronnieroadster on August 18, 2015, 04:34:36 PM
There's a lot of racers pre registered already for September as of today over 120. With the lack of salt to race on looks like lots of racers are heading to Wilmington. First timers will get to enjoy how nice the Wilmington mile is.  An added bonus is how the community appreciates everyone visiting their town.
Were planing on running the stuff we built for our maiden salt flats runs might as well use the stuff since the salts not looking good for the future without a lot of help from all of us.

There is another bonus to Wilmington....., after you get home you don't have to spend the next month cleaning salt or El Mirage dust off your race and tow equipment.

I was late in booking my room for the September meet and as an FYI, hotels are filling up. I normally stay at the Holiday Inn Express but it and the Hampton Inn are already full. I did manage to get a room a the Wilmington Inn so all is good.

We are staying at the Hampton WC too and had a jacuzzi tub while there at the 1/2 mile meet. Free upgrade according to the Wife. Not sure if we are getting Jacuzzi this time time but wouldn't object to it !

Got a room at the HI out on the freeway, everything in town was booked.  Just hope there isn't a dog show this time, those were some stinky dogs in June.

Just registered and count is now 144 entries.  Confirmed my room at Wilmington Inn.  There is a cat show on the 26th and golden retriever show the next few days so expect some fur in your Jacuzzi!

I registered two and possibly four bikes, guess I need to talk to Tanya to see if I screwed it up - damn online registrations.  Where do they show the number of entries?

The site has recently changed for registering for the September meet. I was unable to find the number of entries on the new site.

Yep, Looks like they may have had to change companies.  Not sure what happens on the 2nd page of the new form but guessing it won't include count from AXWARE system they used before.  Email is your best bet to verify count.

If there is a spot open I would like to register for Sept. Now my car is finally ready and Bonneville was canceled. I did get a patch and a membership card so that's better than nothing

Thanks but I guess I'll pass. I'm still upset about Bonneville don't want to be shut down again. Next year ECTA May and hopefully Bonneville in September.

It's official - the Geezers are coming to watch everyone go fast! Ask us about turn key 200 mph race cars just sitting around!! See you there.

Just a side note.  We had been on the wait list and are now in to race.  We were also able to get a room in Wilmington ...which had been previously sold out.  Things are changing around a bit.  😊

During a previous stay in Wilmington we ate at the General Denver hotel...had some delicious burgers.  We also walked around a cool little used book/music store called For a Song and a Story on Locust street. Neat little place, the owner was awesome.  She gave us a map and told us some places to visit.

The City of Wilmington is always so welcoming.  We try to patronize the local shops whenever we are there.

I'll just put this out there. I had to cancel my event registration and hotel reservation at the General
Denver so there may be a room available.
Found out last Thursday I will be getting my gallbladder removed this Wednesday.
Have fun, go fast and be safe everyone.

Were back home after another great ECTA event.  This was the largest field of vehicles ever at the Wilmington Mile. Both staging lanes on Saturday were full all the way from the pits to the starting line the ECTA crew did a hell of a job keeping things moving along even with some rain and wind issues.
This was my first year running a roadster I saved the best run in a mile for the last event bumping the XF/BGRMR record to 179.8561 MPH. My little flathead Ford V-8 sure likes being in a roadster. I want to thank my entire crew without their help this would not be possible.
The learning curve with the roadster was interesting this year I now have plenty of  information to build on maybe a 180 MPH pass in the standing mile can happen running a flathead Ford V-8 burning gasoline. Stay tuned

Ron, REALLY great seeing you and the gang at this meet and I feel HONORED to have let you know the speed about the 179 pass.  Your expression was, as the commercial says, Priceless!

186 at Loring and 179 here this year, can't wait to see what happens next year!

See ya in 2016,
Gregg

So glad I decided to come. Ran almost 144 MPH without any problems. Trans still wouldn't shift into 4th unless I lifted a little then slam it to the floor again. Met some great people and saw some amazing vehicles. Thanks to all the staff you did a great job. See you in May.

We had a great time last weekend.  Saturday reminded me of being in line at Bonneville, but Sunday made up for it.  I am excited about the 3 day meets next year.  We stayed at the Holiday Inn on the freeway.  I was hoping there wouldn't be a dog show, but not only was there a dog show, but also a cat show.  The elevators smelled like a barnyard, don't people bathe their dogs before a show?  On the plus side, it looks like Wilmington is coming along pretty well after DHL left, I noticed they have a bunch of SCCA races there also.
