Title: The Brits are STILL coming
Post by: CharlieR on July 21, 2015, 02:32:14 AM
This is an extension to the overseas competitors post.

Has anyone looked into a group hire of Las Vegas or Rocky Mountain raceway for a day of drag racing?

As the Nuggets are only giving back 1 week of the pre-booked and pre-paid hotel think I will head up that way from Wednesday 5th to Friday/Saturday so my team mate can at least say he has been on the salt. And, as the bike never made it out of the back of the van last year we will drag it onto the salt for a photo shoot.

Is anyone else still heading to Wendover?

We at the LTA are sorry to hear about SpeedWeek and have a ton of calls from racers looking for a place to run.
The answer is yes, we will fit racers in this weekend that head east.
All of you Brits are welcome to ship your bikes over to Maine for our fall event.  Between British Cycle Supply that now has a warehouse 500 yards from the track and us, we probably have the capacity to store about 1,000 bikes and bikes run faster here than the salt.

Can you stay long enough to maybe run at the Bonneville Motorcycle speed trials at the end of next month?

Charlie, sounds like a good idea. Who else is going?

Is there going to be any SCTA presence on the salt selling merchandise and if so what dates?

It was more than 35 years ago when we lived in the Mohave area, but some of this might apply.  Mohave is a hellhole in many ways.  Not much to do there and it gets hot.  The small town of Tehachapi is near Mohave.  It is at a higher elevation than the surrounding dez and valleys and it is cooler with a wind, usually.  We liked to stay up there.  Things to do in the area are to climb Tehachapi Mountain and to watch the trains go around the Tehachapi Loop.  Ask the locals about "Burro Schmidt's Tunnel."  It is a neat day trip.  Bring a flashlight and some extra batteries.  It is cool in the tunnel.  There is a borax mine at nearby Boron with a visitor center.  Another short trip that is interesting.

Be careful with the rattlesnakes.  The Mohave Green lives there and it is more aggressive and venomous than the usual rattler.
