Title: Salt Talks 2015 t-shirts
Post by: Seldom Seen Slim on May 30, 2015, 10:57:42 AM
Okey-dokey, girls and boys -- it's time to start something going about Salt Talks shirts for this year.  What shall I do?

That is -- the shirts are the single biggest source of funding for this website.  And thanks to the washout of last year -- we have a bunch of '14 shirts remaining.  Not as many as could be, though, thanks to the man of you that bought 'em anyway.  But still - -

I'm not positive that I want to go through the big hassle again - the hassle of auctioning the place on the shirt followed by the work to get the photos from the high bidders and the mess of getting everything arranged just so and the production of 'em.  Not that it isn't worth it -- it's just a big PITA sometimes.  So therefore I ask all of you - -

Do you want us to make and sell Salt Talks '15 t-shirts?  Will you be willing to support the site by stumping up some $$ to get you or your race vehicle or whatever you choose (must have clothes on, Freud!) on the shirt?  We commonly get (on the order of) about $800 for the privilege of being on the shirt -- that's three or four of youse guys spending $200 - $300 for the top spot and a bit less for the others.  Add to that the money we make from selling them to you -- and yup, there it is -- enough money for the site to be able to afford running the thing like you seem to want it run - event coverage, daily stuff, etc.  Is it worth it to you?  Let me know.

Speaking of raising money, I've come up with a "sponsor" to help defray the cost of doing the live audio streaming on landracing.com.  And the guy hasn't even asked for any attribution that he's the sponsor - so I won't give you his name yet.  But if he does -- I'll feel duty bound to give him the credit he deserves for helping support said streaming.  don't be offended, please, if the site sports some type of recognition for his help.  I don't know that he'll get on the shirt - but maybe, maybe.

Okay - back to you.  Shirts this year?  I won't make it a poll -- I'd rather know your reasons for a yes vote or a no.  thank you very much.

What about just a "Salt Talks 2015, by Landracing.com" shirt. Meaning that's all that's on it. Maybe a drawing of a bike or car. Real simple sort of deal

Jesse, the reason that I've been auctioning spots on the shirt is to guarantee that we won't lose money on the shirts.  If we spend all of the money that it takes to get them made (purchase, art, materials for the printing of them, etc) and then don't sell enough -- we end up losing for the site, not gaining.  Stainless came up with the idea of auctioning those three or four spots a few years ago.  When we pre-sell the spots we get enough income to guarantee that no matter how few we sell - we won't lose (much, if any) money.  That's a good way for it to work and that's why we've been featuring whomever wants to be on the shirt.  In Fred's case it's not all vanity - it's his way of sowing his support for the site.  (Well, maybe it is vanity -- I was trying to be nice, Fred ).  We've had a few of the overseas racers/groups/clubs buy in, too.  Before the auction we'd put one or more of the best build diary vehicles of the past year - to honor those racers that built and shared the build with all of us.

So - now you know the background of the concept of auctioning.  May I count you in for some $$?

Jon, if you have leftover any years you should post pics and try to sell the remainder.  Guys, this is the easiest way to support the site, buy a Landracing.Com T-shirt.  There are always race vehicles on them, they are about the cheapest racing shirt you can get and they support your in and off season habit.
There was a time when Salt Talks shirts could have gone away, we came up with a plan to have the production prepaid so the shirts will always lend support to the site, not cost it money.
So, if you want your junk on the shirt, put in a bid... figure there is a $200 minimum and maybe 4 spots, Jon will let you know if you are outbid and you need  kick you bid up a bit.  If you think it is too vain to buy a spot for your past, present or future racer then surprise a friend with his car on there or pic some historic vehicle you always wanted on a shirt.
Bids can be by PM, or out in the open on this thread, I'll start $200 for a spot, maybe two or three more available, then the ante goes up.
Don't make me put the 7 Moons over the Salt pic on there.... I already put Freud riding naked on a Triumph on there... so you know I'll do it.
If you ever had shirts made you know this is a bargain.  Jump in the with a $400+ and guarantee your spot...

Fred, Brenda riding in the Tutu... that would be cool

Ah the Freud shot. My car is under the Freud shot. My son got sent home from school for wearing the Freud shirt with a naked man on it! My wife was pissed but I thought it was funny as hell. So stainless and Freud got my son out of school for half a day. Hunter is forever greatful.
I'll bid $200 but only if I can use one of Tony's avatars for my picture this time.

Ah, Bill -- thanks for the $$.  And sorry about Stainless' choice of "art" the year your car was on the shirt.  I remember you being somewhat miffed when you saw it - but by then it was all done and printed and whatever -- thanks for today's donation.

Stainless' idea about buying some leftover Salt Talks t-shirts is fine.  I'd rather not go to the hassle of showing you which ones we have remaining - but I will do my best to find the shirt(s) you want in the right size.  Hint:  we sell the XL shirts the fastest so your best bet to get one - is to specify any size but XL.  I'll sell 'em for $7.50 each plus postage.  I can get 3 easily and 4 with a cramming motion into a Priority mail envelope - and that'll cost you about $6, I think.  In other words -- $36 will get you four t-shirts delivered to your doorstep or the mailbox out on County Road 14 or wherever yours is.  Buy three, buy two, buy one -- but buy t-shirts, for sure, so we can reclaim the totes that we have - full of shirts.

And finally -- thank you to Fred and Stainless for getting me started on the trail to Salt Talks 2015 t-shirts.  It's a good way to become immoralized immortalized on polyester and also help landracing.com survive another season of racing.  I look forward to hearing from you all.

Okay -- it's time to get serious about the '15 shirts.  Stainless and Fred have tried to get the balls rolling - and I'll now do more of the same.

If we're going to have shirts this year we need to get the shirt art ready for producing 'em.  And that means we've got to determine who's vehicles (or whatever) will be on the shirts, and that means that we've got to have everyone that wants to be on the shirt - let me know how much support you'll give to the shirt and to this website for the privilege of being on the shirt.  Stainless started the ball with an offer of $200, and Fred has said he'd pony up again this year.  But - these fine fellers have been on the shirt - and being big-time sponsors - for a couple of years, so now it oughta be your turn.  Let me know how much you'll bid to be on the shirt.  Remembering that we like to raise about $800 before production - it'll take a few more of you to offer some $$.

Once we get the cash we need we'll ask you to submit your choice of art so that Terri, our creative artist lass, can put the thing together and make the shirt another great one.  I'll add that whomever offers the highest bid will get a bit of editorial sway - and will be able to sorta determine the style or concept behind the art on the front.

But - we have to have the $$ before we can do the art, and we've gotta get the art to Terri soon so she can do her stuff and so we can make the dang shirts in time to have them cooled off (from the press) before Nancy and I pack up for SpeedWeek.

Please - get thy buns in gear and make your bid - NOW!

Hey, girls and boys.  It's dang near no-shirt time for the Salt Talks '15 event.  Nothing - nobody-no one except Stainless and Fred have offered their willingness to pony up the cost of getting a place on the shirt.  And again -- I "sell" those position so that enough money is guaranteed to pay for the costs of making the shirts.  We try to save money every way we can, including making the shirts in-house (potential faults notwithstanding, but we do try to get 'em right).  But still -- it take about $800 to get the blank shirts and the transfers.  We don't charge ourselves (we do the printing in our laser shop, Kudos Laser & Design) anything for the labor and electricity used (an 1,800-watt heat press don't run for cheap!) in the hours-long process of making the shirts, so that keeps the cost down, too.  but - I'm afraid to make the shirts for less than that $800 up front.  We've never sold out of shirts - and usually sell a few more than it takes to get our money back.  Since shirts and Salt Talks are fundraising activities for the website - not making money isn't the desired result of doing all the foo-fah-rah.

So - please, folks - give me some "bids" to have your chosen art on the shirts.  In the past we've taken in at least $200 for being on the front and $100-150 for being on one of the sleeves.  If you value the site and the Forum as much as so many of you say -- please think about coughing up some $$ and let us get going.  It's going to take some time to get them done - and we've only got about five weeks before they need to be finished and packed into boxes.  Let the money you offer be your annual contribution to landracing.com.

Please get with me either here on the Forum or in a PM/email (if you want to keep your placement on the shirt a surprise).

I'll be waiting to hear from you very soon. :?

Okey-dokey.  We're up to the point where both sleeves are taken and at least two vehicles have been "bought" and two more sorta committed but not yet confirmed.  Moving right along -- we might already be done.  I'm going to (well, Nancy is going to) order the blank shirts later today.

Thank you very much, ladies and gents.
