Title: Hood scoops..
Post by: jjolly on March 04, 2015, 06:51:46 PM
I have read and re-read the rule book (2014 edition) and I have concluded that I just don't know the answer..My CGC/B 79 Mustang has a clearance issue, that is, my hood will not close with the current carb/intake/distributor set up I have~! Before I look at sectioning the distributor, changing intakes or changing classes, (Alt, Real street?) can I run the cowl hood from my drag car in classic class? This is my first year with this car, my first time running ECTA and my first question.

You are allowed a hood scoop so it seems a cowl type hood would be ok.

Thanks neighbor! If there is a problem with a cowl hood I'll let them put me in whatever class that fits. I'll make sure to bring extra letters for a class change if necessary.

There should be some very specific verbiage about scoops/cowls, heights, and placement.  Street you can do anything you want as far as hood goes, but not classic classes.  There should be specifics to how close to the windshield, how high, and so forth.  I know its in there somewhere.

Send an email or PM ( he is member here of course) to Joe Timney. He will answer your question I think. No longer president but certainly still active.

Street ("real" for gas or fuel carbureted engines, "super" for EFI and/or forced induction) makes for a fun way to run at Maxton or Loring without conforming to class rules, but you MUST have a licensed/insured vehicle. We ran /GSS, /BFSS and /BGSS before removing headlights and going to /B_ALT.

Luke, you can run at Maxton but you will really be "running". Check Google Earth, they appear  to be using OUR old track as part of some evasive/high speed  training course. Miss y'all
