Is this going to be a new record class? Will they just be running half mile, or will miles be run also?
-
Half mile only. No records. Just run what you brung.

Is the sign up entry fee amount posted somewhere?

Guess I thought the records would be all open. Keeping track of all the records and reset records would be tough.
-
Okay, if they are not going to start a new 1/2 mile class, why not accept times from this event as records if they exceed an existing record, or set one for an open record? The timing equipment and officials are there, why not?

1/2 mile is a bit short for anything. El Mirage is 1.3 miles and it feels short. With a 1/2 mile you wouldn't be out of second gear before the lights.
-
If it was the first meet of the year I would be more interested so we could get some shakedown runs and get a breif idea of gearing so we could be in the ballpark of guessing for the mile other than that I see it as a waste of time, money and equipment plus a 1100 mile round trip and motel nights. Its difficult to have 2 maybe 3 new rides and not use up at least one meet per bike getting each one close on final gearing. There is barely a straight section of road around here that we can run much more than 3/8 of a mile and at my age I don't want a run in with the law for illegal equipment and too much over the limit is considered reckless driving with heavy consequences including insurance.

Looks like some are missing the point about the July event. Since the turnout has been small in the past in July trying a different approach to get some new drivers interested is what I think the July 1/2 mile run is all about. Be Safe Have Fun Go Fast. I'm sure a few outlaw street racers would like giving the 1/2 mile a try hold on baby!
-
Records or not, we are showing up to try and be the first car to go 200mph in the half mile at the Ohio Mile. See everyone there!

We were planning to go to the July meet, on the way to Loring. We wont do that for a half mile.

Most don't remember but the SCTA had 1/2 mile drags back in the 50's.... Would be great today if you have the shut off......

Not unless you were making a return run.

I see what you are talking about. I never saw a drag race at Riverside, only Can- Am races.

Bet you would get a few more entries if you would go ahead and award records for the 1 mile, even if people beat them on the 1/2. I am sure the 1/2 mile format will bring some new people, but at the expense of many people who wanted to run the mile or run for a record. I have bikes I would like to preview for Bonneville, but am tempted to go to Texas instead. From a marketing standpoint when you have low numbers than it hardly makes sense to offer even less and hope more people show up. Most street squids are happy just to go to the drag strip and prove their manliness there - a half mile might be too daunting for them, especially the safety requirements.
Bottom line - either time the runs and offer records, or go back to the 1 mile course. Even a split schedule of 1/2 mile on Saturday and mile on Sunday might be good.

I've been wanting to go to the July to meet since the first one. This year I have the opportunity to be there.
the half-mile would be fine, something different.
But no records ? How do you compare apples to apples ?
With so many busas and zx's running . and so many four wheelers in the same classes.
July being the least attended event of Wilmington, the lines should be short with a mile event ,anyway.
it sounds like there's going to be a lot of texans driving right by the track , not going in .
