Title: Brits coming.
Post by: desperate on June 15, 2014, 03:16:38 PM
A 40ft container is currently mid-Atlantic on its way to LA with 10 British-built Salt bikes in it. These include my supercharged Indian 741B, Mexican John's (he looks Mexican) supercharges 650 Kawasaki, a 1980's top fuel drag bike he found on eBay, now fully rebuilt, Briz's beeeeeutiful turbo charged BSA twin, Steve French's supercharged Triumph, a 500cc JAP special, Peter Allen's 650 Triumph (already holds a record) & more. At least two more bikes are being flown over, a supercharged flathead Harley owned by Patrick, & another turbo charged Triumph. I only have pictures of my Indian & Mexican's Kawa, hopefully some of the Brits will see this & post pictures of thier bikes.
I'm afraid I caught "Salt Fever" when I came over with 5 other bikes in 2012. The BBC made a documentary called "Speed Dreams" about us, so now.....12 bikes! Look out for us in the pits & come & say hello.

Your daughters are OK, MM, I'm only coming to the salt Flats to race, not to flirt ;-)

My bike has a new fairing and some better/stronger hardware in the engine, still in bits, got to hurry up...

As it was after last year campaign in front of the garage, a tad small but I cope:

Hi John not this year. I want to experience Speedweek and also the record is higher so gives us a real challenge to try and break it. Also lots of competition in our class will make it fun. What are your plans this year?

Looking forward to seeing the improvements - both with the fairing and the time slips.

Patrick, I don't know what your itinerary is for your trip, but if you manage to make it to Milwaukee, you MUST SEE the HD Museum.

Let me know if you come to "Beerhaven".

I'll personally shake all of you guys by the hand if I find you on the salt.  It was due to the Speed Dreams program on over Christmas 2012 which resulted in out Speedweek trip in 2013 and also our return in 2014.  Just spectating for a few days while on a bit of a US road trip so will hopefully meet up in the pits or staging.

Getting very close ..I am really struggling to source any Nitrous can anyone help please  :-)

Here's a place to try:  email to Scott Horner of Heads Up in Salt Lake City (well, the south suburb thereof called Sandy).  He races at Bville and does run a speed shop for bikes and such, and whether he has a direct source for nitrous or not -- I expect he'd be able to help you find a place to fill your bottles.  His email is  headsuplv@aol.com  .  He's also on Facebook now and then -- take a look there if you're a FB user.  Good luck.

We're still undecided on the Flower... Speed Scotland have a big (secret) project that I'm not involved with and I'm waiting the hear from the guys if they can spare the time to come run the car.... she's still sat in Cali after a sponsor didn't pay last year and we didn't have the cash to bring her home...
Really really hope we'll be there with you all...

Rick;

I was really looking forward to seeing that beautiful green 'liner run again this year.

If you let us know who the sponsor is that weaseled out of paying, it would help others from getting ripped off by that "sponsor".

Gutted for you Rick and the other guys involved. We stopped by your pit a couple of times last year and were going to come looking for you this year. Hope the salt gods work in your favour in the next few weeks.

Well if we don't make it this year... if anyone knows of a group of guys in Cali that might want to prep and crew the Flower in 2015 let me know...
Optimism fading fast for this year now though... but wouldn't be the same without T-Man anyway!
Cheers

Boys, I am am so very glad you all made the effort to return for more speed. The documentary was well done and I hope the "break-in" period has given you powerful tools to get the records you are looking for. What a great adventure. The Yanks are pleased to have you all!

Coming? We are here already :-D
Most of us are or will be in Vegas today travelling to Wendover Wednesday.
So if you see any rental vans drifting to the right side of the road lanes it because we are used to driving on the left .

Myself, John Young and Phill Steel arrived in convoy into Wendover last night to be greeted by a fantastic lightning show. Unfortunately the rain was not so welcome.
Have to wait it out today (Thursday) to see what fortune brings on gaining entry to the salt.

Hello, the British racers.  I've still got some stuff for you.  I think I gave out all of the pre-ordered Salt Talks shirts -- but correct me if I'm wrong.  I know I've got a couple of Century of Speed books awaiting (one of) you.  As I remember I was asked for them - and they turned out to be hidden with other Salt Talks stuff in the trailer.  I've got them here in the house now.  Let me know how to get them to you - or to hold them for later.  If you'd like a refund on the payment you sent -- say that, too, and at least you won't be out the money 'til we do get together.
