Title: '93 Firebird LSR "To be named" Please comment
Post by: toadjammer on April 04, 2014, 10:01:50 PM
Hi,
Just started my LSR Firebird build January 1st.
Planning on running GC/B this year and see how it goes.
Going to run a fuel injected LS3, muncie 4 speed with a 9".
I will start with some pictures and add as I go.
I am bulding the car with alot of help from my wife's cousin so I was thinking of naming it something like "Just Cuz" Maybe add something to it to relate to the cousin aspect.

Thanks
Trent
Setting the engine. Note the front suspension is rebuilt with new QA1 coilovers and all urethane bushings.

It will earn it's name as time passes.

None of us are close to your project.

It's your project and it relates to you and not to us.

Do you ask the public for help naming your first born?

If the answer is YES you don't deserve the kid.

Same with the car.

Freud,
Honestly I wasn't given the oportunity to name my first two children,  my wife took care of it.
She most likely won't be naming the car though.

Thanks for the well wiishes.

Now Freud, you be nice to my neighbor.

Trent, welcome aboard.

Think about your influences, think about where you're from, and think long term.

Think about what could eventually used as a brand.

Also, you're running in a class with a 235 record.  Start putting together the safety items first - they get expensive.  Chute, cage, fire suppression - you'll need to build to the 235 spec, even if you don't think your car will hit it.

Also, take note of where chutes are attached on other Camaros and Firebirds.

We'll get together over a burger - drop me a line.

Chris

Welcome to the fun forum Trent, where the attitude towards going really fast can be light hearted. :-D
It's good to see new blood coming into our sport. :-)

Think about a digital name -- like 486, 952,1084 or such.  And check with Chuck Kalbach to see if it's available.

Good luck,

Not pussy whipped, trust me on that one...
The only comment that she made when I told her I was building a LSR car was that I needed to make sure I had life insurance before running.

Thanks for the warm welcome.
Trying to break away from work a little more often.
When I get some time to make it up your way I will give you a call.

Better make sure it doesn't have an exclusion for racing. Many/most do of course.  8-)  My wife took it a step further saying "it looks like you are being strapped into a coffin!" :? :-P

Trent:

Looks like a good start. A lot of good advice here and some good humor if you keep the right frame of mind. Not sure what your plans are. The Firebird is a good platform but you will use up the usable space real fast. Be sure to allow for some ballast attachments on the four corners, low and towards the center is best. That way when you scale the car you can get it balanced good so you can adjust it drive a little better. It looks like it may have been a race car in another life but over hear weight is our friend so toss some billet and add some iron!

Take a look at Daryl's build over at Breaking Wind build thread. Chris Coffee is an awesome fabricator and is building a similar platform. Lots to learn by studying some similar builds.

Looking forward to the progress reports.

BR

Dr. Freud, my friend, I take say 30 seconds of whipping and then I am free to do whatever I want for the rest of the month!  :-D :-D It has worked for me for 25 years!

Still moving forward.
I am sure everyone knows how things go.  You get some new ideas, want to change things up a little and it backs up things a bit.

I will update later this week.

Thanks
Trent
