The FlatCad crew is looking for some good ole' fashioned LSR community support!
We'd sure like you to register and vote for the FlatCad coupe in the Champion Spark Plugs 'Search for a Champion' contest that starts tomorrow. Lets be honest, we could use the money to help us be the first flathead powered competition coupe to go over 200 at Bonneville. The world needs more things 'flat' that breathe fire, make noise, scare children, haul butt and compete on the Great White Dyno!
Our Entry: - you can vote once a day, so do
Dates: January 6th - February 2 . . . if we make it to a Top 15 finalist, we'll be begging for more help.
http://alwaysachampion.com/search-for-a-champion/entry/1568064#.Usltv_RDtuJ (http://alwaysachampion.com/search-for-a-champion/entry/1568064#.Usltv_RDtuJ)
Voting Registration: Yeah - we know it is a pain to register . . . it is the 'rules'
https://alwaysachampion.com/search-for-a-champion/register/voter (https://alwaysachampion.com/search-for-a-champion/register/voter)
Purpose: We'd like to show Champion and the entire racing community that a totally cool vintage engine stuffed in what once was Dad's old 'grocery getter' coupe, built by a talented team of average guys . . . who all came together on the SALT - is exactly what they should care about and WANT to sponsor. And they think all real racing is done on asphalt, dirt, water or snow - we think not!
So hey gang, check it out . . . we appreciate all the support you've given us over the years - Thank You!
The FlatCad Crew
PS: Pass this URL around, link to it on Facebook - tell your neighbors, call your mother, put a sign on your dog - just get the word out will yah.
-
No sidewinders.
FREUD
-
It wasn't sideways, Freud. What we saw in that photo was the engine set up with vertical shaft for a rotary-type lawnmower, I think. :-D
-

The only problem I see with that motor is the blower inlet is probably running at a different density altitude than the rest of the motor :-o,
Sum
-
Yeah - that and the drive belt was stolen off of a derelict old Pre WWI industrial complex - where it drove all the machine tools via the steam engines in the basement. It is a big ole' leather piece - with steel 'Frankenstein' stitches in it. We keep it soft with good ole' baseball glove oil. Really - I wouldn't lie to yah!
-
I'm swamped at work out here in snowy PA., but want to take a minute to ask you all for your vote.
This contest is very important to us, so I'm hoping you'll take a few minutes, register, and vote for us daily.
I don't know about you, but I think it's time for a LSR car to have a Champion sponsorship again!
Thank you for looking!
-
Done, anyway of telling how many votes each entry has?
-
So this is like a Chicago thing - vote early, vote often?
I stuffed one today - keep the reminders coming!
-
So this is like a Chicago thing - vote early, vote often?
I stuffed one today - keep the reminders coming!
I read the rules - seems they just love to have as much Champion website traffic as they can get (like everybody else on the WEB). So . . . 'Yes' - it is Chicago style voting - everybody can vote once a day and that is what they're actually looking for!
Cool by me . . . thanks for the support as always.
B&S
-
That was probably less painful than signing up for O-care
I kept getting interference from Jon W :? got a Slim error :-D
So I think I voted... but I will vote early and often... it is the democrat (ic omitted on purpose) way...
-
Now what did I do, Stainless? I haven't even gone to the Champion site yet. :? :?
-
I'm all voted up. Wayno
-
Buddy, you know the deal! Free t-shirt for every 500 votes!
Too bad there aren't any homeless hot-rodders we could bus in! :-D

Just a quick reminder that we need ALL the support we can get! Please vote everyday, and share the link with all of your friends.
I want to offer a BIG thanks for those folks that have, and that continue to support us!

Best of luck to the Flatcad team.

I've voted every day too. Where are we now? Wayno
Wayno, this morning we are 27th- we've been bouncing azround between 23-28th, so we are definately in a position to make a move!
I'd sure like to pave the way for LSR cars to be contenders in this contest, and give the roundy rounders and drag cars a run for the money! :-D
-
May be worth a punt and throwing a link in the hot rod magazine forums? [urlhttp://forums.hotrod.com][/url] Iirc the editor there has raced at Bonneville before so may get a few votes from there?
-
signed up and started voting today. good luck guys.
-
I REALLY appreciate all of the help and support we are getting! A week into the contest, and we are running 25th, so we have some work to do still.
One more time I must ask you to share the link with all your friends, and encourage them to participate. I know we can do this, but it won't be easy!
Thanks again!
-
Put my daily dose of a vote in!
-
OK Buddy, I'm on board and voting.
As soon as Gus gets back from Portland I'll get him on it too.

Buddy, voting often! Maybe these will bring you luck!
-
Thanks everyone!
We are holding steady in views, between 23-28. They don't show votes, so the best we can surmise is views are about equal to votes.
We need to make up some ground. We've posted everywhere we can think of.
Anyone have any ideas on how to gain votes?

Let me guess-in this instance, it's not your typing finger your talking about! :-D
Guys, thanks for all the support! I apologize for not being on the board, and following build threads lately. We've been busy thrashing to get ready for GNRS, and pushing this contest.
You guys are great! Thanks again!

No matter how hard I try, it seems they will only let me vote one time a day for every email address
-
Me too, so I got my wife to register!! :-D
-
my 3 in every day... come on slackers, register and vote, vote, vote, vote, vote, vote, vote, vote, vote, vote, vote, vote, vote, vote, vote, vote, vote, vote..... well you get my drift
-
I want to thank everyone for their support!
This morning, we've moved back up to 24th place, on the second page. Now is the time to keep it moving up!
I know everyone has been working hard on our behalf. I'm asking those that have not been voting to vote-please jump on board now!
-
Voting daily. Don

Voted. Never been called a Slacker before.

Don't worry R2, if you're voting, voting, voting, voting, voting, voting, voting... well you know... every day, then I obviously wasn't talking to you. I know we don't have enough Democrats in this group to understand the concept of stuffing the ballot box, but we are all smart enough to read and learn how it is done
It would be great to have someone in LSR sponsored by a big name with lots of stuff... that was not a corporate effort.
So it appears the round-e-round folks have this game figured out, let's throw a salt rat in their way
edit
Here is a little coaching... all you need is an email address to sign up... to vote with 2 addresses go to the account block and log out, close the page, then hit the link again... log in with the second email and vote.. then log out and close the page... hit the link again the next morning and repeat...
Thanks guys, let's support Buddy on this as much as possible

Shoot, if we can get this ballot stuffing thing down maybe we can put Freud in the white house.
-
If you put me anyplace make it the Director of the BLM.
Intrepid would wither like an unwatered gardenia plant
in Palm Springs and a 6 lane haul road would be busy
24 hours a day returning salt to the basin. Water would be
pumped from the Great Salt Lake to flood the course.
When completed we would go racing on a new
12 mile course.
FREUD
-
This is a good thing!
Freud, That would be great. Maybe Save the Salt should think about buying Intrepid's contract. Just a thought, probably not possible.
R2d2 out :-D
-
Thanks Stainless for posting the web address on each page. It helps me find it every morning. Voting every day and passing it on.
GO CADDY-O, GO
-
I REALLY want to thank everyone for all of the support-the sticky, voting, words of encouragement-you people are GREAT!
I've received a few emails stating that we 'sure are tooting our own horns'! Yep, we are! Everyone knows that to receive support and sponsorships, there is salesmanship involved-and we are doing everything we can to win this thing.
I think this is bigger than FlatCad racing, though. Big sponsors used to court LSR more, when Edelbrock, Thopmson, and so many others tested their innovations and products on the salt. As manufacturers moved away from this, so did the sponsors.
I think that if we can make a good showing, and land a sponsorship like this, we can pave the way for others to do so in the future. We need to get sponsors looking at LSR as a profitable place to put their money, not just at Nascar, Top Fuel, etc.
whatever the outcome, I, and all of the FlatCad Racing team sure are thankful for everything you guys are doing!
Today, we've moved up 2 spots to 23rd!
If everyone that's voting could convince 1 person-relative, friend, dog, cat, etc., to start voting, we could take this straight to the top!
Thanks for all of the support! http://www.alwaysachampion.com/search-for-a-champion/entry/1568064
-
Hey - now it's disappeared on my screen. I don't want to go through all 390+ entries again - so refresh my memory, please. What it the entry name, and howsabout a good link to go directly there? It might help other folks, too, assuming they have the same roadblock as do I.
Thanks.
-
SSS, here you go:
Voting: http://www.alwaysachampion.com/search-for-a-champion/entry/1568064
Voting Registration: - Yes, you have to register, not a big deal . . . its the 'rules'
https://alwaysachampion.com/search-f...register/voter
At the moment, we are on the bottom of page 2. Or, you can search for Flatcad
Thanks again!
-
And a voting on we go
-
Oh, I know -- I've been voting on the Autolite Spark Plugs pages!
Nah, not really. I searched for Flatcad and got "no such thing" twice. I swear I looked at all of the photos - 392 of 'em -- still didn't see that very easy to recognise car.
I'll keep looking. Bedtime now, but in the morning. . .
PS I hope everyone is having a good time at Sparky's this evening. Too bad Nancy and i couldn't make it.
-
I dunno SSS, when I click on this link it takes me right to us! http://www.alwaysachampion.com/search-for-a-champion/entry/1568064#.Ut3cntLn_wc
Also, when I search for flatcad, it takes me right to us!
-
I don't think Slim has that whole click on the link and vote thing mastered....
-
Hi Slim,
The lead in picture has the back of a hansom guy with a 200 mph Club shirt from ECTA and a red hat on.
That is covering up the car.
Hooley
-
Hey Buddy,
How are you guys doing in the voting? My wife, my dog & I have been voting for you religiously, and the dog is curious . . . . . .
Fordboy
-
HOLY DOG DOO! I tried to log in this morning and got this: "Slim Application Error"! :-D :-o :?
All caps search works for me: FLATCAD
-
That's it. I saw the ECTA Club shirt - but didn't try to look through the guy and to the car. I guess I'll be able to handle it now. As for those of you that think I don't know how to click -- unh, well. . . mmmmmm, I did manage to get Nancy to marry me. I had that part clicking okay, right?
-
Another day, another vote.
Slim, as far as getting things to click. I'd say you did ok. I still haven't found a woman that can tolerate me long enough to get things to click. Although I can say I've had a good time looking.
-
OK, everyone-we've moved back up to the 23rd spot!
If everyone who is currently voting could send this link to all of their friends, we could take this straight to the top!
If everyone who is currently voting could just convince one other person to vote through Feb. 2, we could take this straight to the top!
.....And if you're reading this and not voting, PLEASE VOTE! Your vote really DOES make a difference!
Thanks again, everyone!
Oh, SSS- 'That guy" in the ECTA shirt is Hooley!
-
Sure. I didn't recognise him with his clothes on, that's all. :-D
-
I registerd to vote, so i'm looking for Flat Cad and came across Caley Weese!.
Sorry Buddy, I just couldn't resist.

Actually Buddy, as of a few minutes ago, make that 5.... Fred and Sophi are both voting from now on as well... took a little time to get the dogs signed up for gmail... had to convert the ages to dog years to get past the underage email rules. :-D
They will be happy to see you next time you are in the area...
I'll see you at the show

So, once again:

.....And if you're reading this and not voting, PLEASE VOTE! Your vote really DOES make a difference!

Buddy - you've shared this build from day one. The inspiration, the changes, the troubles, the successes.
While you and the team have fronted the time and money, the sweat and the headaches, we've also become invested in this project.
Federal-Mogul may make spark plugs, but we know who the champion is.
-
Chris, you are far to kind, but thank you!
Thanks again everytone, for all of the support!
Today is the last day to vote, so hopefully we'll have a good turnout.
Then, we wait until Feb.18, when Champion will announce the top 15 finalist

Thanks, Don

Me, the wife and the dog all still voting and it's the 3rd here!
-
Thanks again to all of the votes and support!
The votes count for 33% of the total 'value' Champion places on the entry. The rankings were based on video views, so it's hard to guess how the views correlated to votes.
Champion will announce the 15 finalist on Feb.18. Thanks to all of YOU, I feel our chances are good.
Regardless of the outcome, we owe a HUGE part of our success and fun to all of you, for the support and encouragement you have provided us.
Thanks again!

Hey, we just pushed buttons - YOU GUYS pushed the project!
Best of luck - there was nothing else competing in this competition that had a story like the FlatCad.
-
I have been lost for the first 15 min. of my day now. I haven't any thing to vote on since it was over. Good luck Buddy and crew, you had a great presentation, first class video and Glen's words we all want to hear.
Hooley
-
Well Gang . . . we did not make it to the top 15 finalists - THANKS for all your support and efforts - you've been amazing and we're blessed to have you all involved.
This is kind of like every dang contest you've ever been in - somebody has to win and somebody has to lose (unless it is a 'Politically Correct' event - where everybody gets a fricking trophy). So be it . . .
Yes, we were obviously way ahead of some of the 15 winners in the number of times our video was viewed and I'm sure we were way ahead of some in votes, but this contest was clear -> 1/3 Votes, 1/3 Best Depiction of a Champion and 1/3 Inspirational Quality. In the end the first third is very concrete and the last two thirds are intangible and involve the opinion of the judges. Their opinion is just that - theirs . . . and it is also their contest, not ours.
So with all due respect to Champion, we're thankful for the opportunity to represent the true hotrod spirit of the HAMB and the entire LSR community as a whole. We gave the contest hell and we had a TON of support from this LSR community - you guys are awesome! We also made a lot of new friends - makes it all worth it in our minds.
Onward and Faster . . .
The FlatCad crew, sponsors and supporters are not slowing down - we plan to be right back out there this summer . . . as we're just getting started.
I'll leave you with this --> It is not a car, an engine or a cool part that makes all of this special -- it is all the people on our extended team . . . that is where the Champions truly come from. No trophy or prize can touch that - period.
Take care and keep swinging the bat with us! And Hard!
See Yah on the Salt . . .

It was great to see Buddy and the FlatCad at the GNRS. We were in the same building and I doubt that I
said more than ten words to Buddy. That's just the way it works. All of us were busy even with nothing to do.
His effort in getting the car there was supreme as is everything they do.
See you on the Salt. Good Job, Buddy.

Rat's I voted every time I was around a computer.
Maybe the next contest will be "doing the impossible with an engine and a combination of parts and custom engineering that has never been done before and then having the nerve to drive it at the most hostile place on earth!" That contest I am sure you will win.

Champion's loss!

For me I prefer NGK anyway in my flatheads they perform much better than the ever missing made in mexico champion. My two cents worth.
