Title: harness bar
Post by: mxnuke on July 07, 2013, 09:42:04 PM
New to standing mile stuff but after going to the 1st 3 ohio races,im hooked. After the april meet i came home and sold my drag car, bought a c4 corvette with a 427 sb and a 6-speed.Got a rule book but i see the c5 and up corvettes are allowed to run a harness bar up to 150 mph.The c4 shares the same style high strength steel factory halo bar as the c5.I did not see any c4 cars to ask, only one i seen had a full cage.I found both chassis pics on-line,so could i use a harness bar or will i need a 4pt bar?  If this is not the right place to ask, sorry. i will join esta for next year,i wont have safety stuff done by sept. Thanks,Dennis

This is the right place. I believe the c4 falls under the harness bar category. If the rule book says c5 and up it needs to get run by those who are in charge. I'll have to check my rule book when I get home for clarification. If its not in there I can find out for you. Joe Timney is tending too his wife, Keith Turk would be the next in line but he's on the 9-5.

Sincerely,

Your friendly tech inspector.

I talked to Joe and did some research. It looks like the c4 has an integrated birdcage structure with a "hoop" behind the drivrs head just like a c5. You are are good to go on the harness bar. I sent Joe the link and he will make changes to the rule book as needed. Please Please Please read the rule book very very carefully harness mounting. Shoulder harnesses must go thru the seat and not around the outside they also can not rub and part of the seat. Make sure you get a good solid bar. Try Arizona Speed you'll need to call them they don't list corvette bars on there web site. I have owned one of there bars when I had my c5.

Thanks for your help. I spoke to a few vette racers and they are the ones who told me about the harness bar deal.At some point in time i will put a roll bar in. But to get my feet wet first im going to go with a harness bar and a racing seat and belts. thanks again,i am sure this will not be my last question...lol..Dennis

I don't have it in front of me. I believe its under the 150mph requirements. It reads something like; vehicles such as the c5 corvette or dodge viper manufactured with an integrated roll structure......
