Looking for 1/2" 20NF nuts with 1" outer diameter with Flat washers (1/4 thick?) for the centerline wheels on my Streamliner.
I must be looking in the wrong place or they are not made and I will have to make some myself. If I am reading the rule correctly anything over 200MPH needs a 1" lugnut?
Any help for a source is appreciated. I can make them myself but I doubt people are making their own lugnuts....

I was told to use standard 1 inch lug nuts put on backwards. Flat side towards the wheel. Which you can get from Speedway or my choice Roto-Faze. About a dollar apiece. That was for a flat face wheel with a 1/2 inch hole. With the large shank lug nuts on aluminum race wheels I made a steel ring that had holes drilled for the extended nut shank to pass through and the hex to seat on. If you have taper seat holes I guess you use the same 1 inch lug nuts taper side in.

Remember that the Speedway Motors 1" hex lug nuts are 45 degree taper-- both the 5/8" and 1/2".

So I had thought about putting the nuts on backwards myself with a plate we will turn to fit the ID of the wheel and the OD of the hub and give the 1/4 for the washer.
I think it would hold it all on and "push" it flatter against the wheel. Any reason a guy would use the taper side? I assume the clamping force might be more but pulling it up flat would be more important to me..

Try Dorman catalog.
I use 5/8 18 heavy truck studs and nuts. They are flat with an 1 3/8 OD and 1 1/16 hex. Same size studs as NASCAR.

All right, I'll ask the question that I've wondered about for at least a long time - since you bring up the NASCAR lug nuts, doug.
Tell me about the lug nuts on the wheels for NASCAR. How are they threaded that they snug up so quickly? Even a pretty fast impact wrench isn't that fast, is it? And how do they stay on the wheel when the wheel is ready to be installed on the car? When I put a wheel on the studs come through the wheel and would push nuts that are stickied to the wheel - off.

Three things, Coarse thread, 6000-8000 RPM on the impact and weatherstrip adhesive that holds them on the wheel while they push it on. They have some with springs on the wheels to but it seems to me they still use the weatherstrip adhesive.
Im a stock car racer as well as being a salt addict now.

The wheel studs have a rounded nose and an unthreaded portion which lets the lug nuts simply slip on and hang there until tightened.

There is ongoing controversy in regards to this 1" lug nut business. Apparently, the rule was not intended to apply to alloy style wheels but a lot of racers didn't/don't know that. Many racers have sourced out tubing that is 1/2" I.D. and 11/16" O.D. to use as dowels over the wheel studs and then extra thick 1/2" flat washers with the 1" lug nuts installed "backwards" over all of that. It works.... An alternate method was to make the dowel tubing stand out enough to locate a mag wheel type washer under the lug nut - just make sure that the overall length of the tubing is not so long that the wheel does not tighten up!
I made mag wheel lug nuts from 3/4" Grade 8 bolts with the shanks machined down to 11/16" and then bored through for a 1/2" NF thread.... My lug nut is 1 1/8" Hex but the rules do NOT say that the lug nut HAS TO BE ONLY 1" & NO MORE THAN THAT!

So here is a pic of the front hubs/ wheels, washers.
The "Plate is .300" think 4140 in over the wheel under the 1" lugnuts upside down. The spacer fits the OD of the Hub and the ID of the wheel to center it as well......I am not sure if this was missing when I bought the car or just wasnt made yet....nothing centered the wheel before...

Fast and Burton are right on...I have done Centerlines for years with bushings and plates.
A "beer" can and hose clamp make a perfect hub cover. Al Teague and George Bentley ran them on the the roadster for years. I prefer RC cola cans....Works great on trailers too.

We did machine the hubs already for the stock type dust covers with a tighter fit than stock. Being from Wisconsin, we should have known the trick about the beer can..... shucks you California guys are always one step ahead...

We will be set up for that, in fact we might put them over the stock ones just for the cool effect. A beer sponsor would be impressed with that. I might have to call old Milwaukee or someone like Fat Tire. Should be a Wisconsin beer..... :cheers:
