Title: ECTA lakester rules
Post by: moparmissle on April 03, 2013, 10:17:50 PM
Im in the planning stage to build a lakester to mainly race at the ohio mile and maybe some salt later on. I had a question as to the rule that no part of the can extend past the inner most surface of the tire, is this with the tires straight or turned?
                                                                                                     Thanks,

The intent of the rule is to make sure no areo advantage is gained by the tire being covered in any way by the body. The inner tire surface must be outside any body surface even when turned.

It would be hard to imagine how you would make it so the tires could go inside during turns anyway, but I have never heard of anyone checking a lakester with the tires turned to ensure the body was inside the inner plane.

...so as not to have an aerodynamic advantage while trying to recover a spin???????????

Moparmissle,
When the tire is straight.

I was questioning because of a thought to run axle fairings, thanks for the info

... a thought to run axle fairings...
And so...? What's the rule on axle fairings?

Lakester Rules
Special cars constructed in such a way that there is no streamlining, fairing or covering of the wheels and tires. Tread width is optional so long as no part
of the body or axle fairing is wider than the narrowest inner vertical plane of the tires. Wing struts must be within the inner vertical plane of the rear tires.
The wing must be mounted at least 12 in. above the top of the rear tire as measured from the lowest part of the wing. Front wings must be no wider than
the inner vertical plane of the narrowest set of tires.

Be sure to read the section on streamlining (4.CC scta book) as well, axle shape is not considered streamlining... a body fairing over the axle is.
