Title: Texas Mile: Ryan Ostergard sets new asphalt MPS/1650 mile record
Post by: entropy on March 25, 2013, 11:37:04 AM
Ryan Ostergard runs an NA 1635 Busa, awesome Carpenter kit.
(this is the bike on which Bob Sellers set MPS/F-1650 record = 225.137 at World Of Speed in Sept 2012 (previous record was 221.108)
At the recent March Texas Mile, Team Ostergard experienced a bad gremlin all weekend

**********************************************************************************
from another forum:

(Ryan's) Bike was on the limiter associated with the clutch switch, NOT the limiter set while flashing.
After the Oct 2012 Texas Mile, Team Ostergard/TFA did some wiring changes to fine tune the set up and it looks like we didn't get all the bugs ironed out.

Seems that if you have an issue with the clutch switch, it goes into a mode which has a 10,800+/- limiter.
(thanks to Johnny Cheese!!!)

That means:
1.  Ryan never saw the shift light (we depend on it to get every last rpm out of the motor)
2.  We didn't get the use of rpm range 10.8-11.5 where motor makes it's mojo power.
3.  Ryan was on the 10.8 limiter for 4 sec before the traps!!!!!!!!!!

We chased that gremlin all weekend, never fixed it.
Ryan rode the balls off the bike to get the great speed he got.

Last pass he made on Sun afternoon:
207.0 at the half
228.9 at the mile.

Imagine Team Ostergard pits all pissed off/bummed after running ONLY 228.9mph

Bottom line is that we achieved the objectives we had for the meet:
1. beat entropy's NA Texas Mile track record = 224.6
2. beat Zack Millholland's official world record for NA bike = 227.3 at Wilmington July 2012

Congrats to Ryan for focused aggressive, consistant, successful riding = world record!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Lone Star Flag is the signature of Karl Gunter, TFA chairman and founder. There is a breeze there for sure. Hope it was a tail wind ... well done.

Karl and I are going to meet up on Saturday, JC is going drag racing, Ryan and Jen aren't coming. I don't think any of TFA are going to compete. Crappola why am I going? To visit with Karl and maybe meet some new people.

Very impressive and big congratulations to the driver and crew.

I certainly don't want to take anything away from that achievement but it's still a couple tenths shy of Bill's 2 wheel VEHICLE top speed in Oct '10.....  Just another reason for me to have somewhat less than full faith in the press

Be interesting to see what it can do on the salt, different traction conditions.
