Title: Fine earrings with a flame motif
Post by: Seldom Seen Slim on December 13, 2012, 05:54:20 PM
By "fine" I mean -- really nice quality, not inexpensive stuff.  And fine here also includes handmade and even hand polished.  Here's the story on this "Flame Drop Jewelry":

Victoria Ward is a jewelry artist that's connected to land speed racing through Ken Rappaport, and he's on the crew of Amir Rosenbaum's Speed by Spectre 400mph car.  Victoria and ken offered some of her work for sale on the site last year -- and this year she was kind enough to donate a pair of the earrings for me to sell as a fund raiser for the site.

These retail for a bit under $200.  They aren't for everyone, but maybe your wife would love them.  After all, think of all the stuff she puts up with when you're getting your race car or bike ready for another adventure on the dirt or the salt.  These would be a really nice - and surprising - gift for her, the woman in your life.

I'm starting the "auction" of these at $100.  It'll be a fundraiser for the website, remember, but you'll get a really nice gift to give, too.  I'll have you folks bid on the Forum - right here in this thread, and I'll end the auction Monday the 17th (of December)..I've got the jewelry here - so will ship it to you in plenty of time for you to give to her (or whomever, for that matter) for Christmas.  If you'd like to see more of Victoria Ward's work - - you can visit her site.  It's (appropriately named) www.vicward.com.  I've attached a photo that Victoria sent.

Okay -- let the bidding begin.  Thanks -- and Merry Christmas

What are they made of? Old pistons from the Spectre?

No, not recycled engine parts.  These are pure sterling silver, okay?

In that case I'll start the bidding at $100.

Saltwheels, can be modified to hoops but lever backs are very comfortable and preferred by many. The picture does not do the piece justice, they are finely finished on both sides and sure to please. They come in a gift box with a divided pouch to keep them shiny. Victoria is a talented artist and has created custom pieces for may well known racers including Butch Blair (FUG pendant he always wears) and Howard Haight. If you want to discuss a custom job shoot her an email. She has done a Dragster for me (on her website), Shooting Star with flames for Amir, Big O Wave for Dushanka (Amir's wife), Karate Kid, etc. She will work with your gold and stones if you would like to re-purpose your jewelry. Her prices are really reasonable for the quality and hours invested in each piece. Check out vicward.com to see her Contemporary Jewelry.

This'll be the last bump for the earrings.  We're up to $150 for the set now.  They'll be a dandy gift for someone this Christmas - or birthday - or anniversary - or Valentine's Day.  Go ahead - you know you want to get a really nice gift for her, don't you?

How did we go from 110 to 150? Silent bidders?

must be.

One bidder, I guess, didn't see that I was allowing bids to be sent on the forum -- so sent a PM.  Sorry -- but it went to the $150 from the $110 in one jump - no intermediate steps.

Still some time.  I'm done with laser engraving in about 2 hours, and then (and only then) go get our home computer (which is finally able to go online again).  The I'll go home and enjoy a few moments of hymeneal harmony with Nancy, and then - finally - set up the 'puter to see if there are last-minute bids before I close the auction later on today.  Yee-hah -- finally the machine will be back.

And the high bidder is. . .

Pat McSwain, with a fine bid of $150.  Yep -- he's the one that didn't post his bid on the Forum.  If it was a secret - like maybe so his intended recipient wouldn't see -- wooops, too late.  I've told the world.

Anyway, thanks to those of you that did offer bids.  Remember, not only was this a chance to get a cool bit of jewelry that's racing-related -- but also a good opportunity to help the website stay up and running smoothly.  Thanks again -- and don't necessarily think that the site doesn't still need a few $$ from all of you.  It is Christmas time, you know -- a fine time for giving.

I was going to make the following a private message, but this board doesn't have private messages:

Slim, you need to "send a request for money" via paypal, or give me your paypal addy (this is an email address).  I sent you my paypal address with the bid.

Unless you take CC's, then give a ph# to call it in, and type of card.  I won't publically post credit info.

Concerning the public post of a private message?  If I were in your shoes, I would have nullified the bid privately.  To each their own.

Yes, the earrings are a gift for someone who reads this site.  She collects flame stuff, but currently cannot race.

You are still welcome to nullify the bid if you wish, but you should do it publically.  One thing about some LSR folk, they don't know what anonymous donation means.  I was "outed" recently by others as well when I specifically wrote for the donation to be anonymous.  I did not specially ask you to keep it anonymous, I just sent the bid privately, so you are off the hook for cancelling the bid if you wish.

And here's how you send $$ via Paypal - to me, at least.  Use any of the PP buttons you'll find here and there on the landracing.com website.  Click on it - and you'll go to the landracing.com (I think that's the name on the account, but it doesn't matter -- it works) and enter your stuff.  Feel free to click "gift" so they don't take out a big cut of the amount.

Thanks again.  I'll ship 'em most any day now -- likely in the morning when I visit the Skandia PO.
