Title: 11.5:1 Truck Engine on regular gas?
Post by: JustaRacer on December 13, 2012, 01:13:09 PM
The upcoming GM 6.2L V8 gas pickup truck engine runs off 87 octane, but has 11.5:1 compression ratio.

How did they pull that off?  Aluminum engine, direct injection, and variable valve timing.  Cylinder deactivation is being used as well.  Controlled back pressure, special mounts, and active noise cancellation will supposedly keep you from knowing it's running on 4 cylinders.

No word on mileage or HP yet.

Amazing.  I can understand how they get away with it on small engines, but never thought they could do it on a HD truck engine.
