Title: 2100 CGALT target SW 2013
Post by: wheelrdealer on October 09, 2012, 06:47:58 PM
Finally after a year of storing parts... on the 15th I will have a new shop to work out of. My car and a bunch of my parts have been 4 hours away since I moved back to the east coast of Florida last Nov.

My chassis guy called today and the car is finally done...great guy but never again will I tell a chaissis fabricator to take his time, no hurry. I guessed two to four months max...more like 12 months. All is well that ends well.

After the drive shaft let go in 2011 and cut through floor I decided the floor was a very weak part of the car. Rather than replace it with 16 gage sheet metal we went with .125 plate. I got the idea from Jeff's build at BalOSalt. It added about 415 lbs for all the mods mostley the floor and tunnel. We also added a "A" pillar bars and a center Earnhardt bar. Lastly we notched the firewall to make it easier to get to the bell housing bolts.

The chassi guy is confused and asked me if we race over land mines or something.

AY

Thanks, I have learned a lot from this site including a lot about the rule book and how it apply it. My whole idea of the reinforced floor came from Jeff's BalsaSalt build that he posted on the forum. Eventually I want to build a car from the ground up. I was not going to redo the floor in this car but after 2011 drive shaft incedent. It was very obvious in a barrel roll situation the floor was pretty week. So I went ahead and beefed up the floor. In 2011 before Bonneville I added the funny car cage inside the 8 point cage to support the driver's side.

Thanks,

Bill

Looks stout enough!

I'm looking forward to this, as you've sure proven the car can run fast!

Ray Therat had a drives haft failure in 2011 at WoS.

It just about got him when it came up thru the floor.

He made a major change to get it safe in his 130 Club car.

this also included major strength improvement in the drive shaft.

Bill, you made good decisions.

I'm happy that the car is back in your NEW garage.

Thanks to alll,

I will post updates and pictures as we make progress. One note, my fab skills are not up to many who post on this forum. With that said, I typically have a large scrap pile.
