Title: Doug Nash Transmission
Post by: #31 on October 03, 2012, 09:23:13 AM
I am in need of a service manual for a Doug Nash 4+1 trans. Or some who has knowledge on clearances and setting one up.

I am pretty sure Richmond Gear bought out Doug Nash transmissions. I believe they still make the transmission you have. Contact them and they can give you the information you need. http://www.richmondgear.com/

Tom is correct, Richmond did buy out Doug Nash....However Richmond was bought by Motive Gear earlier this year and not sure if they have the people to help you. I used to work at Richmond years ago and might be able to help you or could find out the answers to your questions. Is this trans your working on a drag race unit or street unit?

It has no brass synchros in it and it has a long lower shaft. Some sort of torque shaft.

That sounds like the drag-race unit they used to make, as I recall it had a torsion shaft running the length of the trans to absorb shock.

I found this on Ebay for you, it might help, or you could contact the seller and ask some questions.

What clearances you looking for? Another option for you is to call Liberty Gear. After Richmond stoped making the drag race unit, Craig Liberty bought most of what Richmond had in parts and made parts for this trans for some time. Not sure what he has now but could be another resource.

I'm pretty sure I have one from the old days when I had a "Torque Tube" 5 speed. I'll look and see, BTW if you have the TT Model and ever want to sell it make sure to contact me, I've just started looking for one again after 30 years I grew up around Joe Liberty and Doug Nash on the West Side of Detroit back in their days '60's & '70's. Get back to you soon. Regards, Al.

I got the one that sells on e-bay, somewhat useful. I have 2 DH 4+1s I picked up for our car but not going to use them. One used the other is new. The guy I got it from said it had been under the work bench for 30+ years. The used one was in a Nova drag car in the 70s-80s. $2200 for both with one shifter. If you are in need of more.
