Title: BC Racing 1 New car-3 rookie drivers
Post by: azgearhed on March 04, 2012, 06:52:40 PM
Went to Speedweek in 2009 to check it out. Hey-this is pretty neat. Went to Speedweek again in 2010. You know, I could do this alot-better build a car to race. I don't know why it took 40 years of drag racing and hot rodding before becoming aware of land speed racing, but I'm here now. After Roger Beckman and I returned from Speedweek 2010, we started looking into feeding our new interest. We found an old bonneville Camaro on Craigslist for cheap. When we started the updating process, it became apparrent the car was too far gone(rust) and out of date. We found another Camaro and started from scratch. The work began in April of 2011. After the interior, glass, plumbing and wiring were removed, we inlisted the help of Mark Leonard to design the cage. After a couple of weeks of exposure to Bonneville talk and general gearhead bs sessions, Mark came on board as the cage and chassis fabricator and became additional rookie driver meat for Speedweek 2011. In four months, in a home garage, three guys built a 1979 Camaro gas coupe. The car was finished on August 10th. We left Phoenix for Wendover on August 11th. I have to thank Lee Kennedy for his help and patience through many phone calls and e-mails-we had a lot to learn.

Smart decision on having Mark Leonard involved in the chassis building. Smart man thats been around a long time. Knew of him from when I was drag racing. Might have to keep his name in mind if I decide to go the doorcar route.

Hi

Is there any chance in your drive line hook up you lost your crank end float, that would kill the thrust first then the main shell.

I had that happen one with a boat racing customer, prop shaft came forward in his crackerbox and pushed on the crank and killed the thrust in the first race.

Just a thought, Don
