MoTeC has just released a smart new entry-level engine management system with a professional pedigree and a price tag that is sure to get people talking.

The highly programmable M84 is the latest descendant of MoTeC’s benchmark  M800   ECU , featuring much of its big brother’s advanced technology, tuning configurability and smart diagnostics, with the added benefit of on-board Wideband Lambda and data logging included as standard, with no need for separate hardware.

The M84’s Windows based ECU Manager software has been tailored to suit more modest requirements while still maintaining intelligent tools to assist tuners - for example, the indispensable Ref/Sync Capture, which provides an in-built digital oscilloscope to expedite setup and trouble shooting, plus output testing to check injectors, ignition coils and auxiliary devices without the engine running, and clever sensor and injector diagnostics with fail-safe defaults.

This versatile new ‘gold box’ is an ideal fit for a wide range of high performance engines up to 8 cylinders, as well as twin, triple and quad rotaries. Its eight auxiliary outputs are user-programmable for functions such as boost control and intercooler spray bars. Like all MoTeC ECUs, the M84 can accommodate most existing sensors, minimising the time and cost of installation.

MoTeC Director, Richard Bendell, is anticipating an influx of interest, particularly amongst high performance tuners and club racers. “We know there are lots of customers around the world that want the accuracy, sophistication and proven reliability of a MoTeC ECU but they simply don’t need the full functionality of the M800. The M84 offers a unique combination of race-bred features for a much smaller investment, so it’s the perfect choice.”

For those wanting to expand on the standard system, several options can be enabled on the M84 at any time via password, without sending the unit back. These include Traction and Launch Control, Hi/Lo Injection (secondary injection), Gear Change Ignition Cut (for flat shifts) and Overrun Boost Enhancement (anti-lag), all of which can be purchased individually or together as an Advanced Functions upgrade. Dual Wideband Lambda is also available as an upgrade.

The M84 features a  CAN * communications bus for easy connectivity with other devices such as dash displays and shift light modules, and fast downloading of logged data. This data can then be comprehensively examined using MoTeC’s world-renowned i2 data analysis software to improve driver performance and vehicle set up. A professional edge for no extra cost.

MoTeC M84 ECU Prices start at $2550.00 USD available now from ST Consulting and other authorized MoTeC Dealers. Contact (714) 318-5845 or email shaneteck@yahoo.com

Who asked?

Not trying to be a jerk but this post seems extremely whorish.

I don't see it as bad thing, if someone who is very knowledgeable on the subject, is letting others know what products are available on the market. cheers

Cut and paste from the manufacture, zero additional insight and conveniently including price and his email and phone number. (*or maybe justified by adding 'any motec dealer', yeah right)

Sales pitch, hawking merch and I find it distasteful.

Whats next sales pitches for new mattresses and motor homes?
(*OK if they are knowledgeable?)

Thanks for your input, gentlemen.  I saw the post from Shane the other day - and didn't immediately jump to him to ask him to become a site sponsor if he wants to run an advertisement.  You're right, J & Stainless, that I allow regular sponsors to make posts like this one appears -- plain old advertisements.  And usually there's an outcry, just as the three of you have done, that lets the "guilty party" know thast we all prefer ads to help npay the upkeep of this site.

In the case of this one - I got in touch with Shane to ask a MoTeC question for personal information and did not ask him to follow the "rules" of the site.  Now - you've all done that for me.  Shane has posted a few other times, and that implies to me that he isn't a complete newbie to the Forum - which, in turn, makes me think that he'll fairly soon see our mutual concern about supporting the site.  I'll let it ride for a day or two -- and if he doesn't get the hint I'll directly state the rules.  I don't want to chase away what might be valuable input, but I want to give our paying sponsors a fair shake in return for their $$ support.

Thanks again.  Okay, back to the laser machine for me.

You know, I don't have a car in this lap but, it looked to me that the post was a PR kind'a thing that may have come from Shane's people. If it was directly from him, then OK John and Nutz are correct, should be site support.

If the post was a marketing deal, then he now knows the 'rules'. I would hate to see this resource leave the board for a couple of pissy posts.

This looks like a great ECU from a company that I believe is the best in the business.  I would recommend anyone interested hit the MoTeC factory site and contact any one of a number of qualified representatives and/or dealers.

I noticed this when he first posted it and I just assumed he had become a sponsor. I have worked with Shane on the corvettes I built and he is a stand up guy for sure. I can only guess he doesn't know the rules.

as a megasquirt user myself - I am still a huge fan of the MoTeC systems (well, the ones that use a Windows tuning interface).   There are other systems you can buy (domestics) for $2500+ that come with absolutely laughable (lacking) documentation and *TERRIBLE* tech support.

If this system is like all the other MoTec units, then it's 100% documented, comes with absolutely excellent hand-holding tech support (assignment of a dedicated, responsible technician in your region), and has strong internet/forum support from a knowledgable user community.

The documentation is a HUGE factor.  To me this is worth at least half the price of an Engine Management System.  As far as Universal systems go, for what you get - MoTec is a serious bargain.  And I'm slightly more than a casual Megasquirt user  cheers

I'm guessing Shane doesn't know how the "rules" of this forum work, but we'd be truly stupid to run him off.
