Just got back from a quick trip out to the salt.  While I'm certainly no expert, boy did it look good.  I drove a short distance on what was probably the long course...and it was awesome...smooth and beautiful!!!!

There will certainly need to be some work done at the end of the road prior to the onslaught of racers and spectators (it was very, very rough), but man oh man did it look fffastttt!

Dad is out there all week baby sitting some stanford engineers, trying ot make an autonomous Audi TT. As of last night he said the salt was great.

Dallas, if Dad likes it too well, he may not return home.

Call and tell him it's gonna rain on him.

Well I reckon he spends more time on the salt than anyone. between racing, scouting for courses, save the salt (dealings with Intrepid), and helping the BLM make sure commercial use isn't trashing the salt, he makes a minimum of 20 trips out there a year. But he has to return home to get the big generator for SCTA and then again to load the racecar.

I talked with him this morning and he said it rained pretty good last night. There is puddles out about 200 yards off the end of the road then the salt gets hard and dry again. all is well. "knock knock knock"

Any updates on the course conditions?  The forecast I read sounded like it was going to be pretty dry for the next several days.

I was at Land's End on Saturday and Sunday and there was ankle deep water all around.  You could drive off to the right of where we normally leave the pavement and I saw a Dually driving toward the dyke.  Looked like you had Salt to drive on (without standing water) about 200ft off the dyke, all along the dyke (seeing how many times I can say dyke in one sentence).

We didn't drive out onto the salt.  I have pictures if you want them, send me an email to V8Pinto@yahoo.com

I think you meant to say dike...

A dyke is entirely different  shocked, than the subject being discussed...

Hey - some of my best friends are sidecutters Smiley  Looks like you can spell it a couple ways.

http://www.answers.com/topic/dyke-1

Meaning #2: a barrier constructed to contain the flow of water or to keep out the sea
  Synonyms: dam, dike, levee

I generally refer to my sidecutters as "alternative lifestyle pliers" so as not to offend anyone. grin

The key point in your question Billy is "the water at lands end"

Who cares? That is at least 5 miles from the action.
