#608 Lakester being built by Rob Ida
« on: June 24, 2010, 11:20:44 AM »
Here's a new one for us to follow.  You folks may well remember Rob Gibby and Robin Dripps from their adventures at Maxton and Bonneville in both a roadster and the "old" 608 lakester.  The car is owned by Bob Dauernheim, and Rob (whom Nancy and I know pretty well, along with Robin, his high school buddy) sent me this link to the photos of the build.  Joe is the IT guy with the Rob Ida shop --= where the build is taking place -- and I've asked him to register and keep an eye on questions you folks might have about the build, the car, and everything else.  Joe just sent an email (as I was typing) saying he'll be there -- so have at it.

Notice anything kinda familiar about the shape of the canopy?

Hi guys my name is Joe I am the director of communications at ROB IDA CONCEPTS. I will be documenting the progression of the DAUERNHEIM-BIGLOW 608 LAKESTER being built by ROB IDA CONCEPTS (visit robidaconcepts.com ) The lakester will run in class "AA/GL" and if all goes to plan will set a class record with speeds in excess of 320mph. at this point in the build we will be sending it to the wind tunnel test to perfect or fix any flaws in our aerodynamics. I would be more than happy to participate in this forum with you guys as well as discuss any other projects we have going on like our 57 cadillac with a vette LS3 engine, or any of the completely custom cars we have completed.

Hopefully with all due respect to the current record holder we would love to blister right past that

Besides the new design concepts Rob Ida has come up with we have brought in Bob Cuneo to consult on the aerodynamics. Bob Cuneo of BODYNBOBSLED.COM has built gold medal olympic winning bobsleds for the united states. We believe that with Rob Ida's talent and passion, along with improved aerodynamics/mechanics at the end of the day this car will come away with a bonneville world record.

What manufacturer is the Quick change? What is the ratio of the ring and pinion?
Thanks in advance.

I love the USA. How much longer will we be a free nation?

Seth is a good enough sportsman that I think he'd let you run that record up to 320 and then the next day take it back at about 325. In other words I think his car has a lot more in it.

Racergo  I would not bet that there is a whole lot more in AA/GL, maybe FL. We are running up against the aero wall with the frontal area size it takes to get over 500 cu in. Supposedly Seth has around 1050-1100 on gas  I had around 930  one is going to have to get the total drag down as well as the frontal area--- I have not seen anyone doing all at the same time. I sure haven't,  I have done some but not all.

Sparky, in AA gas class a 1400hp motor would be no worry. A pro stock motor at 500ci makes that. Something in the 600 to 650 ci with a big bore and shortish stroke. Blocks and heads with big bore centers are now available to make this possible and a buget of about 75k could get you one. Plug 1400 to 1500 hp into your LSR program and see what that gets you for speed. It makes me want to sell my house just thinking about it!!!
