I thought the ones with big numbers were the mile markers.... the others course markers....  they formed a nice ^ to drive into and all the markers made it easy to pick out the spot on the mountain to drive to.  While we always try to make it between the markers, the reference on the mountain tells you that you will go through.  Most of us rarely use the lines on the highway close to the vehicle to stay in our lane... we look down the road.  That works well for LSR.
The little cars never see the lines till they cross them...  undecided

That sounds familiar Stainless oh that's what you told me to do. Just follow the arrow and reference the mountains and it will lead you to the 5.  I promise it works every time.  cheers

I don't know if anyone has made mention of this but the courses at WF are marked with black markers with orange mile markers. Standing at the 0 mile the mile markers really stand out (from a spectator point of view).

I need to chime in here from one whose has 3 lines then 2 lines and now no lines.....D3 said if we had any problems with the black bag at the 1/4 mile marks to see Ed Stuck it was his doing....

Well I'm here to say THANKS ED STUCK and for the BNI/SCTA for letting him try it. Thos big black trash bags the size of the mile markers were perfect...made it much easier to turn off also. I only got to look at them twice but I hope the BNI/SCTA sticks with the idea. Sitting at the starting line strapped in I see all the way down and eventho I was one of the last to drive on Wednesday in the 18 mph side wind I always could see where I was going............................JD cheers cheers cheers cheers

In the golf industry, we use a black dye in the lakes. It is non toxic and breaks down over time. Chances are, anyone that sells green and blue turf dye can get you the black dye as well.

More to ponder here. I have been looking at various recordings on YouTube where various teams recorded their runs at Speedweek 2010. Spectre, roadsters, some cars. I specifically wanted to look at the course markers as the vehicle accelerated for visability and course reference. My reasoning is a result of my next to last run on the long course. I described under a different post what I experienced. My roadster started to drift right at over 200, I usally could tell when that happens by using the black line as a reference point. That didn't happen that pass. I was on top of a marker and barely had enough time to ease up and correct. Very quickly the ride went left as I continued to accelerate and I was on top of another marker on the right side of the course clipping it as I disengaged the tranny and threw out the laundry. If the line was there, as in years past, I would have known sooner the ride was moving around and gotten out of it saving damage to my ride and preventing a disaster. I was out between the three and four mile when all this happened. Anyway, looking at the recordings it appears the markers were to far apart for good course reference points while accelerating. I understand they were changed to black markers for the World Finals. I know of a blown Camaro that got off course and didn't realize it continuing to acclerate down the track and endangering course stewards, helpers and others. The driver was chewed out but I think I understand how he got off course without the black lines, especially after reviewing other recordings and how the course was marked. What is a good fix so that doesn't occur again? There have been several suggestions, I think the one advising club members to address the issue with the SCTA board members is the best one to get a positive fix. For me, the lines help with course referencing while under power and deceleration.
