Hey, we're back.  There was a corrupt post that kept whatever 'page' it was on from showing up.  Through the modern miracle of computer science (ok, I admit it was dumb luck and Forum-forum prowling) the bad stuff has been whacked off.  Whew.

Thanks Bob.  I guess the picture of Lenny I posted broke the server....
I will have pictures and maybe even video tomorrow.  We started the liner today, it jumped immediately to life but was running on half the cylinders, problem with the ignition module... new one here at noon tomorrow.

As threatened, here is what has been going on

John, Lenny and I have been helping Max get the scooter ready for its first start in 2010, the year of Black Lightning according to my calender.  We moved it outside and started setting up the dyno equipment Max borrowed from Jerry Wilson.

Our first test will be to see if another picture of Lenny seizes the server again....

Then we throw in a picture of John

If the server holds to both, with Max directing traffic we shall be able to proceed
 rolleyes

Here is the dyno.  Max has made an adapter to mount it to the transmission.

The scooter is set up on wooden boxes and John attaches the "dyno leg"

Then the dyno is bolted in place

We got it all hooked up and decided it was time to start it to see if it would run....

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fwCCpFhQtY8

It did, kinda... the rear cylinders of both motors ran fine...  front cylinders not so much, you can see in the video that one exhaust is spitting raw fuel... no ignition.  Here is the problem, the ignition pick-up must have got a bit fried.

Of course there is not one in town, but a quick trip to Truitt and Osborne netted one by next day air.  Of course it was a little disassembly to get it out

All the parts are back together, and we have ignition

tomorrow morning we run a little water through the dyno, load the motor a little and see what happens

Having the exhaust exit the vehicle like it shows going to have any effect on the handling?  Just watching the nitro funny cars move when the loose a cylinder makes me look at side exhause differently than I use too.. Just wondering if it makes any difference on a 2 wheeler.........JD

JD, not yet but as a 2 wheeler it has only gone in the 220s... currently running as a 3 wheeler and after the dyno sessions this morning it has a good chance to run the distance several times...
We made a check pull, putting a little strain on the chains and motor, about 150 lbs ft at 4500 rpm for 20 to 25 seconds.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=viU7oDp51Wk

The second pull is still processing so I'll have it in a little bit

Here is the second dyno pull, running about 4500 rpm and holding 250 lbs torque.  The #4 cylinder will be richened a jet.  This pull had a little larger pill in the return to lean up a bit from the first pull.  The motor sounds great I hope the video captures the sound.

Our Fire Bottle inspector was amazed... he is a sprint car guy and he just couldn't get his chin off the driveway
